Goffin takes out Tsonga in three sets.

So much for Tsonga being a threat to Swiss in DCF.

This guy Goffin is having a huge winning streak this year. He won like 35 matches or
so in a row (even if most are in challengers etc). Then he helped Belgium making the
World group in DC by winning both his ties and now he takes a top 10 scalp. Watch out
for Goffin guys.

Goffin is a great mystery! Small guy under the radar?

After I saw all the results in the QF today, here is my 2 cents.
For the last few years, men tennis was ruled mainly by the top 4, and below by several layers of veterans, making really hard the younger ones to move up.
Today, except for Monfils who defeated JJ, in the other 3 matches the younger crowd prevailed.
2 upsets by Struff over Kohli (he may have been sick, but Struff already upset Chardy in the previous round and he is clearly moving up) and by Goffin over JWT.
In the fourth match, Sousa defeated Mathieu, that is not a surprise by ranking, but PHM was more than once in a position to carry the match, he was 1 set and 1 break up in the second and then 1 set all and a break up in the 3rd, just he could not close the deal. I am seeing a lot more and more of eagerness and hunger among the younger ones 19-25y olds, to not waste as much time and not been so inhibited as they were for many years by now.

Tsonga said he was washed, that's probably why he lost vs Goffin, no more gas in the tank !! La Monf said he was tired too but he won...

Furthermore to my observations about the QF, where in 3 matches out of 4 the younger player prevailed, today in both SF matches, again the younger one cmae out on top.
Goffin confirmed his good form and took out Struff, making his second ATP final, this time on HC;
Sousa pulled the upset eliminating the last French player in the run, Monfils.

So either Sousa or Goffin will win their second ATP title and the last time this event was won by a non French player was 2008 by Tursunov. (Tsonga 2, Simon 2, Monfils) wining the last 5 titles.

So we should put both Goffin and Sousa as some of the favourites to win upcoming Masters 1000 events?;) Good for them for reaching this final:clap

They are players who most likely will never win bigger events than 250, but why start winning them at 26-27, when you can make the most of your career much earlier than that.
The longer it takes to them to reach their peak, the harder it will get.
What El Dude numerous analyses show, historically, players were peaking at 25-26, not at the end of their twenties.
There is still a big chunk of veterans who are competing for titles, but it is also refreshing to see younger ones.
I am sure we are still far off of the average age in terms of event winners with the balance tipped way over the older players.

My two cents is that both Goffin and Sousa did well to take advantage of the situation where 2 big favourites from the French team were probably just spent and mentally and physically tired.

I thought you were going to answer me differently so I was ready to propose some sort of bet between us in predicting the most likely winners from the two upcoming big tournaments in Asia - Beijing and Shanghai. :lolz:

We will have time for the bets for Beijing and Shhanghai;)

Tsonga's year was mainly down in comparison to his usual level. He had an unexpected run at Toronto, but right away he was underwhelming in both Cincy and the USO.
He did well again last week to carry France to a DC final, but this week again, is less than impressive. I just do not see him as consistent as he used to be.
As far as Monfils, his knees I am reading gave up yet again. His history of frequent injuries continues.
There is not much to say about them.
