And he still is set to go next week to Rotterdam. He needs to pace better himself to avoid injuries which would be a set back at this point.

Gicquel who is 36 years old is kicking some major ass here. First he beat Llodra and now Simon. In some thread a while back I picked him as a candidate to retire soon based on his age but those are two very good wins for him. I didn't watch any of these matches, just saw the scores. 7-6 (4) 6-3 against Simon today. Impressive.

Yeah, Davydenko was downed by a young frenchman Albano Olivetti (love his name, very italian:), who is ranked only 249, I bet he will move up nicely after winning 2 matches already on a ATP250 event.

Are there older active players on tour than Gicquel?

Thanks for that info.

I think Gicquel may be the oldest, with Haas a close second.

Geez I remember watching Gicquel struggle at US Open qualifying ten years ago!

Yeah, I remember you making a list of those who could retire, it was during the break between 2012-2013 season. The majority of them are still around ;)
We are in a dinosaur era of tennis , those over 30 are better than the vast majority of young players, never mind the teenagers.

In the battle of the oldsters, "young" Nieminen prevailed in a very tight 3 set, decided by a tiebreaker. It was a very good event indeed for Gicquel.

Right. Why retire, when you could still make a good buck for living and you don't need to give a ride to your kids to go to kindergarten? Or you make enough to pay a nanny to do just that

Exactly and doing something you enjoy. It's like getting paid for playing computer games minus the travelling.

Nice point to win the set there by Gasquet but he really almost let that lead slip.
