I always follow mixed doubles (more than regular doubles) as we get to see this event only at Grand Slams (and Olympics). However, it looks like the popularity of the event is fading fast. Wimbledon has cut down the draw size of mixed doubles to half of the usual. Normally they have 48 pairs in the draw with top 16 getting a bye. This year they have only 24 pairs in the draw with top 8 getting a bye.

Some Interesting Pairs.

a. #8 Kristina Malendovic and Daniel Nestor --- they are the defending champs
b. #1 Bethanie Mattek Sands and Mike Bryan --- they are the RG champs
c. #2 Martina Hingis and Leander Paes --- they are the AO champs
d. Madison Keys and Nick Kyrgios --- couple of young things

I am rooting for Martina and Leander.

I'm a fan of the mixed doubles and always enjoy watching it. Those pairs you listed are definitely worth watching! A shame they are whittling the draw down.

Only paying attention because of Martina! Hard to believe they're just #7 seed! At least they got a bye! No fan of Paez; looks like a 10 lbs. bag of Domino sugar in that hideous yellow and white top! :nono - - :dodgy: - :p

Looks like they revitalized the old colors! Forgive me, Paes looks like an old 10 lb. bag of Domino Sugar!

Sorry for the bad OP. It looks like I saw the draw when they were in the process. They do have 48 pairs with top 16 getting bye.

Good to know. That would really be a shame if they actually did that.

Young things lost today. May be Nick was in bad mood after his singles loss.

The following pairs characterized as "interesting" before have reached QF.

1. Mike Bryan and BMS 2. Kristina and Nestor 3. Martina and Paes and 4. Sania and Bruno

1&2 face each other in QF and so only one of them can reach QF. But, 3 and 4 both can possibly reach SF.

[ Only two pairs characterized as "interesting", flamed out. They are Bob Bryan & Caroline Garcia and Young Things]

Sania Mirza and Bruno Soares lose to Peya and Babos. I have been telling Sania that she should change partner in Mixed Double. This guy seems to be a liability. This is not working out for her.

That will be fun!

However, it seems no one in the US will be broadcasting any doubles matches. Not even the Tennis Channel. Bummer.

The winner of this SF will likely win the event as well as the other SF has duds in them.

You can watch it on ESPN3 if you want. But, I won't as I expect it to overlap with Fed's match.
