Yes even Roger (and I'm a fan of his) when he was in his prime, was ridiculously over-hyped by the press and by other RF fans. It used to make me cringe in those days.

What was that piece of tripe written by the guy who later offed himself? Fed as a religious experience?? Worse yet, some fans actually embraced it. Most journalists during his heyday wore out the page in their Thesaurus that had "great" on it.

Yo, that wasn't a piece of tripe, and I'm no Federer fan. It was written by David Foster Wallace, who was not just a great writer, but a fairly decent tennis player. As much as the piece lauds Roger, it heralds in the current golden age of men's tennis. However, I take your point. There is a lot of hyperbole spilled over the greatest "at the moment." We forget the past, and any context. All that exists is the "now." But for "now," Djokovic is surely the man.

The overly effusive gushing by the late D.F. Wallace, is an example of what RZ stated as Roger being over-hyped in his day. To you it wasn't tripe, but for some of us, it was just as nauseating.

You ignored the second part of my post, which provided context. I agreed that it was too purple, same as commentators are falling over themselves to praise Novak now. Some people have the memory of a gnat.

28 masters titles for serbinator.

rank point lead so large it resembles mr crisp's lead in the 1973 grand national, so if murray fancies himself as redrum then it's time for him to start winning pretty soon. (don't see it myself really...)

Since Stefan was born 17+months ago, Nole made 18 big finals and won 15 of them. 18 finals include 5 majors, 11 masters 1000 and 2 WTF. It is really remarkable. Something I knew already but wasn't mentioned a lot during his matches, which ESPN crew did in yesterday's final, is his mental preparation. Not just the use of meditation and yoga, but his visits to nature, parks, any kind of body of water. Fowler said that Nole told them that he thinks players don't pay enough attention to this aspect, mental improvements.

I am looking forward to Monte Carlo hoping that a flock of 29 pelicans will fly over the central court during the final. :)
