Definitely IW is going to be better proof the real level of Nadal and Novak, we’ll see

I'll be curious to hear your opinion of Rafa's level. This is the first match I've watched since the AO, at all, and I didn't think he looked especially impressive. First serve pct. low for him, some really nice shots mixed in here and there, but not much that was too special. Didn't much have to be, either, though. Kind of an uninteresting match.

Rafa's first serve percentage was low, agree with you on the shot making.I think he did enough to win.Lets see his level of play going forward in IW,a tournament and surface that suits him.He did say it was a positive week for him.

I don't think he played well at all, otherwise he wouldn't have lost to Thiem

You should give Thiem a hell of a lot more credit than you are. Nadal scraped past him and won by 2 points at the USO 2018. Thiem won the first set 6-0. It's safe to say he's improved an absolute ton and has beaten Federer, Djokovic and Nadal multiple times in recent years. It's good being a reasonable fan at times.

Let's be serious..Rafa played against the sub 20 bottom feeders...this wasn't a good measuring barometer of his game..unlike Novak's victory where he faced some very dangerous but talented to ten challengers .

Save this thought for IW where he should face a better set of challengers, IMO.

Hey a HC tournament win is still a win so there's no downside to that. If Nadal can get an uneventful relatively stress-free run through Acapulco I’m not complaining.

About the competition, hard to gauge which players are going to set things on fire in any given week.

Ask Theim and Zverev (early round losers) this last week if any ATP match is an automatic gimmee.

Rafa can only play by his draw and who is opposite him at the net,he did what he had to do to win at this tournament.

I knew you would say that. I am not saying he didn't play well or he cherry picked his opponents..I know the draw fell out like it did. It's not his fault but he really wasn't challenged. IMO

Again that was not his problem,if he was not challenged.Novak was only challenged in one match against Monfils,he easily defeated the young Greek in the final.

Where did I say it was Rafa's problem..the goal for Rafa is to win GS over Novak and Roger..not ATP 500 series tournaments even though the top seeds had a bad week..This week doesn't prepare Rafa to defeat Novak at IW or Miami,IMO..I have sat at courtside when Rafa due to no fault of his own comes into a match on hards vs Novak and gets his Mallorcan ass handed to him .I am sure Rafa is happy with the title but he will most likely say this isn't good enough competition pre Novak..IMO

Where's ImJimmy..ask him ?

If someone had said just a few months ago that Monfils would be the most dangerous player in the Dubai draw others would have scoffed....

Im actually a little disappointed with how Tsitspas played, he's like improvisational jazz, beautiful at times but no structure or gameplan.

Rafa can only play his draw At Any Tournament Period, also who is over the net,he cannot Hand Pick his Opponents,or who is going to challenge him period.I think most people would agree with me period.

I have never been a fan of Monfils,he is a great athlete, typical French player, his mind often lets him down and also his shot selection lets him down, like you I am somewhat amazed at his level at the present time.

The young Greek needs to go back to the basics of tennis,on how to structure a point,he was all over the place, agree with your thoughts about a gameplan.

No You don't get it..you are looking for acknowledgement or something. Yeah it will be someone like Jennafan who will agree or like your post.. whatever..I am not interested in popularity but rather anything that can increase Rafa opportunities to win more GSs. You can have the Likes..I am only in it for GSs for Nadal. Estiendo or Comprehende

It's not your opinion but you keep pushing that it's not Rafa's fault who didn't make it through the draw..which wasn't my basic premise..It's not an argument but I just replied to what you posted

Of course I give Thiem some credit but that USO that you are talking about Nadal had to retire playing vs Delpo because he was playing the whole tournament with pain in his knee even that he won the previous matches and later he didn't play IW and Miami and starting the clay season not in the best conditions, and this year he did a very bad decision playing so many matches (singles and doubles) the DC , later going to Australia to play the ATP Cup in the west of the country and right after he had to go to the east to play the last two matches (efferent court) and few days later playing the AO. Do you think that he had enough energy to play his best level after all? really?, I think I'm very reasonable fan which you are very far to be

And then there’s Thiem. An early loss on clay in Rio, but defending champ of IW.
Sort of weird that he chose a clay warm-up, and then did so poorly.
