Didn't have any money in my online accounts but I'd imagine the minute the cramping started and Djokovic won set 2 the odds must've been huge for Dimitrov to win. Anyone who chucked down €500/$500 made a mint.

What are his chances of getting past Stan?

Not great, but not horrible. Do they play tomorrow? Three hours of court time could be a factor.

whatever happens, that's going to be Backhand heaven! i'm a sucker for backhands.

if he does win against stan, i'll be jumping on the bandwagon :D

I would like to take this moment to congratulate Nadal on yet another masters...But seriously, well done Grigor. Nole was hurt, I know, but still...Also I applaud Nole for not quitting and playing till the end . The youngster would have still taken the win, but he will enjoy this even more, and that's thanks to Nole gutting it out.

In fairness it was pretty even. One guy tweaking his ankle and the other hobbled from cramping. If not for cramping it could well have been over n 2.

I don't think they play until Thursday, so he'll have time to recuperate.

I said it before; Grigor will dominate tennis in 2016-forward for sure. He is missing the physicality but slowly getting there/ Love the way he can knife that slide. Is backhand is like the best of both worlds between Richard and Federer.

What I love is that you indicate from 2016 forward. That's reasonable. It gets tiring when people see one win like this, and think Dimitrov will finish the year No. 1.

his Backhand is a federer-gasquet hybrid. his serve and forehand and touch is federer's and his flexibility is Novak's. Mentality's shaping up great. now, if we can only get nadal's physicality.

The big four and a couple guys on tour are still too good for what Grigor can bring NOW. Matches like today will build the player of tomorrow. That player my friend will have all the tools to dominate tennis once the current Kings lose the battle to age and injuries.

Will I be surprise if it happens a year earlier? No at all

Who could have blamed Dimitrov if he had lost the 3rd set after losing the 2nd set tiebreaker 8-10 and having cramps? The 3rd set had a routine 6-1 for Djokovic written all over it. But and that's the point, Grigor refused to go down. This is a true sign of a winner by not mentally checking out after coming so close to a win vs. the world number 1. We have seen this a billion times in the past that once the spirit and belief of challengers/underdogs got broken after being close to victory vs. on of the big guys, they fell apart. The comebacks of the Big 4 then usually ended in a routine set in the decisive sets. This time it wasn't the case.

This might not be Grigors ultimate breakthrough as he's still got physical issues he needs to work on but if nothing else, today he showed the mentality of a champion and that's really a lot to build on from. If he consistently starts beating players that he is supposed to beat, which is what makes the difference eventually, only then we can really say that he is the next Delpo, Berdych or Tsonga.

Don't know about the serve and forehand....I just don't see it. It has his own signature to be honest.

Now, his backhand it's what I would do in a video game....get the simplicity, effectiveness and versatility of Federer and add the power, spin and flair of Richard WITHOUT that hideous and damaging preparation and stance.

well i guess it's pushing it with the serve, but the forehand is very close. it does look a little less fluid but it definitely has a federer resemblance.

100% nailed it with the backhand description.

Huge win from Dimitrov from a mental perspective. After that second set I expected him to fold like a napkin but he showed a lot of heart out there today. Only problem is, what's he gonna do in best of five set matches if he can hardly play two without cramping? I wonder though if he's cramping because of poor-ish conditioning or because he's stressing.

I thought he was done after losing the second set, and blowing a match point. But this was exciting.

The 6-1 deciding sets are annoying. They always make me think umpires should fine the loser for not giving enough effort (or however it's phrased), like they did with Davydenko a few years ago.

They fined Davydenko for tanking a match?

I forget the official name of the offense, but basically the umpire thought he wasn't trying hard enough, so he was fined. This was several years ago, so I forget the details, but I think it had to do with his hitting a ton of double faults.

Tented is right, here's a link about that incident.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/tennis/article-489968/Davydenko-fined-2-000-trying-loss.html

It's funny that it happened against Cilic. When Nalbandian killed the umpire, Cilic was involved too. We should call him John McClane for drawing trouble everywhere.
