Thiem wins tight one over GGLopez: 6-7(3), 7-6(0), 6-4. (Note: Stan's 1st round opponent at RG is GGL.)

I wonder how much energy Thiem will have left next week considering all those long matches he played in Lyon.

This is the question that everyone is asking: does he take confidence into RG, or does he arrive a bit tired. I think most everyone considers it a bad move. I guess we'll see. Plus, what if he loses to Simon? That couldn't be great for him.

Simon is making fast work of Thiem so far. Won the first and up a break in the second in 45 minutes.

Domi has to be the dumbest player ever. If you're going to overplay shouldn't you at least win while doing it? Otherwise, what's the point of showing up?

Thiem broke back, so 5-5 in the 2nd. He may pull it out, yet.

Brat has always been saying he likes team sports better than individual. Maybe his on-court antics are frustration that he has do deal alone with mental pressure, and he cannot. He was doing good, and saying he was feeling good in OZ Davis Cup matches, as well as in Laver Cup matches. So it does not even matter whoever is in the team as long as he supports him on the court.
Eventually, brat should become doubles specialist. Money will be smaller, or maybe not if he finds someone to become no1 team like Bryans rather than hanging around no20 in singles as he does. But overall much better situation than accumulating frustration that he cannot deal with, and facing fines/career disruptions for his antics.
Interesting angle on Nick regarding his preference to team sports.
Seeing he won this title, you could be right that he will have better successes in doubles. He made a good choice in teaming up with Sock who already has been a few times slam champion in doubles.

Kyrgios has very good reflexes which is always good for doubles. His volleying technique is decent, but his mentioned reflexes and his size give him a good presence at the net. Add one of the best serves on the tour and there you have it. Doubles has almost no baseline rallies, so his greatest liability is minimized. No need to look for psychological explanations which are almost completely speculative.

Thiem looking good to close this baby out... but still a bizarre decision to play the tournament in the first place.
