Still a little while away from the ATP Tour Finals but David Ferrer's title win at the weekend almost certainly secured his place in the eight. Novak Djokovic is aiming for his fourth title on the spin.

The top 6 players are set:  Djokovic, Murray, Federer, Wawrinka, Berdych, Nadal.  The last two are tied between Ferrer and Nishikori, but it almost doesn't matter, as Gasquet and Tsonga have virtually nil chance of qualifying.  However, Ferrer's bad elbow has resurfaced, causing him to withdraw from Valencia, his local.  That could be a wrinkle.

And I was just wondering today why Ferrer wasn't playing Valencia.

Elbow injury again, I wonder if he'll show up in Bercy and London

It looks like he is listed as playing in Paris, still, but we'll know more in the next few days.  It would be really bad for him if he were to qualify and couldn't play because of an injury.

BTW:  you look fabulous with that avatar!!! :yahoo:

So the final 8 seems to be set:

Nole, Andy, Roger, Stan, Rafa, Tomas, Feru, and Kei.  Richie and Jo-Willy seem to be the next 2 available.  Nole and Andy are 2 top seeds and they could have Roger and Rafa in the round robin group.  It should make for an interesting WTF. :good:

can't see anybody slowing down djokovic in London
he is just too focused, too fit, and too prepared.
only one who has shot against him there is Federer but he will have to catch djokovic sleeping.

Andy just said he has to  do better against the top players. We can install him as the third favorite in London. that is only if the other two manage to stumble
it does look like a clean sweep for Djokovic at the moment.

Djokovic is obviously the overwhelming favorite.  I don't think there is an easy path to the semis for any of the others though.  It could be something like Djokovic/Murray with Federer, Rafa, and Kei on one side.

As long as No1e is healthy and with enough energy, we shouldn't be in doubt about the winner here.  No1e won record 6 titles in last 6 tournaments played on this surface, last 3 at Bercy and last 3 at O2 Arena. (According to Paris Masters website the two surfaces are identical)

As strong as Djokovic is right now, we have too much talent on the rest of the field to be sure of the outcome. If Waw or Fed catches fire, they can take down Djokovic, even in his current form. Not easy, I am not betting on it, but not impossible either. The others... a bit harder, but who knows.

And, a group of Djokovic, Federer, Nadal and Wawrinka would be something, wouldn't it?

Hey @mrzz  :good:  Yeah, it's not a foregone conclusion by any means.  I think it's more up in the air than Paris Bercy for instance, as they don't have a field to navigate through.  It should be good. Roger is in with a shout, Nadal is improving every tournament and Wawrinka is the enigma.

Federer has a small shot. the final at Bercy showed the true distance between andy and djokovic.

I am moving andy down to the 3rd favorite after Federer.

that being said I don't think djokovic is going to lose a single set here. maybe one set at best in a meaningless match.

he is just that strong at the moment.

you damn near cant even catch him sleeping. he wakes up in time to destroy you in the decider. wawrinka took the 2nd set in Bercy and one would think he had some momentum going into the decider. not as far as djokovic was concerned. he took the deciding frame 6-0.

negative. rafa could not take this even on his best day. he has no chance at all.

I am not really sure he has improved all that much. we are talking just one tournament and he lost to an aging player he had 23-11 edge on. he had some confidence and momentum going in to the decider.

I cant see rafa winning a single match here. you may have heard what uncle tony was saying: uncle tony said that he fought a little bit better in basel.

tony said that he had lost his "fighting spirit".

now he is hoping that rafa will be stronger at the current rate. I hope so too. the sport needs him.

here it is even easier for djokovic than bercy. he can even afford to lose a match in that round robin format and still snatch the title.

I don't think the others have much of a chance.  Even a blazing Federer on a slow court is up against it vs. Nole.  I think Stan is the best bet out of anyone to take Nole out at London but it's a small chance for sure.  I also disagree that it's more up in the air than Bercy because at YEC players are allowed a mulligan in the first three rounds.  2-1 usually guarantees a spot in the semis.

right now he is firing on all fronts like never before:

-- he has this immense hunger and drive going.

--he has the physical tools working in top order

--he has the work ethic going

--he has the confidence and the momentum of a runaway steel locomotive

your only chance is to stop him on clay.
