I'm afraid the chances of del Potro every returning to a sustained elite form are pretty slim.

His matches this year, after Wimbledon, were fantastic. The guy beat everyone left right and centre. Murray, Djokovic, Nadal, Wawrinka, Cilic and he had a few more interesting wins. However, saying "I simply haven't started my off-season preparation screams "I still have pain in my wrist but I just won't admit it. " Even if his results in Australia were subpar, to say the least, I don't think he would skip it, seeing as, it's a grand slam. I am so sad for him. That wrist just won't leave him alone, even after 926261718 surgeries, on both wrists.

Del Po was supposed to be the one to break the lock of majors and Masters events won by the "Big 4," but after all this time and multiple surgeries, still only owns the 1 USO in '09; upsetting Roger in the final! He destroyed Nadal the day before in the semi, and had other great wins in the Olympics of '12 & '16! :nono  :cover

Delpo is another "What Could Have Been" case. We can imagine a scenario where, at the least, he would have nestled in there with Andy Murray between the Big Three and the rest of the field, and possibly have won several Slams while he was at it.

Who knows, maybe this is much ado about nothing and he'll have a true comeback season and be competitive at Wimbledon and the US Open. Maybe.

In a parallel universe kinda what if, we can only imagine how much better the ATP tour would be with a 100% healthy Del Potro, Soderling, Federer and I'll throw in a committed and injury free Safin and Nalbandian as well. Maybe Tommy Haas too with no surgeries. If only

how strange is it...Delpo doesn't seem to be very motivated, he was in top form to win DC then...not enough to play AO ??? I don't buy that, too weird for me

Nice Kyrgios says his break from tennis did him good. He has improved his fitness. Seemingly, he has improved his attitude particularly which I am pleased to see. He is upbeat about his chances at Australian Open. Yes, I am serious. This is interesting because if Kyrgios really comes of age next year it will be a relief. :) :)

Here are a no. of articles for you to see for yourself.

Raonic has ambitious plans for this year. Aiming to join Murray and Djokovic in the battle for number 1:

While I think his goals are hard to match, what is important to have high expectations of yourself.
I am just hoping he will keep improving some more in his tactics in the crucial moments of his matches.
What he showed in London, was pretty good.

Match I would love to watch would be a fully fit Potty v Raonic in a Slam.

Pity you'd have to go back to 2009 when Del Potro had 2 fully functional wrists and Raonic wasn't that good back then.
