I lurk on all sorts of sports forums, and honestly most of them either lock threads before they become politically charged or have a lounge/podium type sub-forum so people there for sports only don't come across it unless they want to enter. I only stick around here during GS seasons so I can't even remember if there was a political sub-forum on Tennis Frontier. Only reason I kept up with that Margaret Court thread is that it was in the ATP/WTA forums.

As for suggestions, I don't have an account there but I lurk on Talk About Tennis talkabouttennis.com/forum. Funny thing is I didn't notice a Politics section until I looked for it just now. The people who run the tennis discussions seem to be good people IMO. Anyways, that's the other friendly tennis forum I've kept up with during GS times. Take care and don't mind anyone giving you crap in this thread for leaving.

Very few dedicated tennis forums left now. Obviously the big 2, Tennis Warehouse and MTF. Talkabouttennis is about the only other one of note I think but the interface is like something out of the 90s. All the others closed.

Over Moderation hurt plenty of boards and with social media's prominence people just find another channel to say what they feel without being moderated.

I'm guessing the poster won't leave Facebook, Twitter or Youtube (if he has accounts), places where he'll find far more aggressive and polar opposite views to pretty much anything and everything.

Anyone ever read or engage on comments on Youtube? Makes this board look like a church fete in comparison.

If the poster stays, good. If not, OK, life goes on. The ignore function has been explained well enough if he doesn't want to read certain posters.

Those fora hurt my eyes. Also generally a bit too fanboyish for my taste. Would be great for Carol though.

What are you talking about? I'd say it would be great for you (of course you seem now to be a little more quiet than before....)

I'm very sorry he's leaving but I always thought the 1st port of call when you had a problem with someone was to discuss it in private to try to solve it calmly & the 2nd was to report & give people a chance to respond. Obviously we all have different opinions & the right to have & air them correctly but we have to allow others to do the same.

Not sure if MJT is reading this or not, but I will post it here just in case. I did get the pm and explained that I needed to discuss it with the other admins and I would report back. Moxie was out of town and because we are using a light touch policy here, we won't take any action without having feedback from all admins.

I'm sorry there are posters who don't like the merger. I don't understand what's not to like. This merge was good for all 3 sites involved. The naysayers clearly have no idea what it's like to give of yourself to strangers with no expectation of a return. This is not a business. No one here is making any money, yet they devote their time, energy and money to create, host and support the site so everyone will have an established environment to come to.

Baron is right. Some compromises have to be made by all of us as we join these sites together. The biggest one so far is to develop a thicker skin. Is someone else's opinion or comment on an internet message board really going to alter your life all that much? I don't want to see anyone leave, but we are not going to expel people like it's grade schooI. Last time I checked, we are all adults here.

Well, to be honest, there's a history with this sort of upset from jedi, going back to TW. He complained to me a couple times about the light moderation. I think he likes a more PG rated, Tipper Gore style forum ;).

In my experience, I've see WAAAY less complaint about light moderation compared to over-moderation. And Britbox is right...we're practically a convent compared to a lot of sites. I second everything that he and Kskate have said. We moved the Margaret Court arena thread to World Affairs (i.e., the political thread,) as we figure politics and some "Off Topic" threads might be a bit more free-wheeling. This is not an invitation for people to behave like trolls, but we're also discovering that, since we're basically a very old community, re-amalgamated, that does a good job of keeping things on track as a united group. We'll find the water line together.

Look, I know you are doing a hard job getting the merger done and I'm sorry if I've made it harder. I did and do still think that it shouldn't be hard to decide that calling gay people "homos", or using any other kind of slur that demeans a group on the basis of sexuality, race, gender, religion, whatever, crosses the line. (And yes, I did report the post and waited several days for something to happen.) But I don't want to fan the flames any further; I hope you find a solution in the future that works for the people on the board.

For those I've talked with in the past, I just want to clarify a few things that may have been lost:

1. This is not about politics to me. I don't object to the stating of opinions, no matter how much I may disagree with them, if they are relevant to the tennis discussion. I may think that opposition to gay marriage is wrong, but it can be expressed without hate speech (in which case I would not suggest it should be censored on the board).

2. As far as I am concerned, ignoring abuse and hate speech where I witness it would make me complicit in it. Using an "ignore" function for this purpose is not an acceptable solution to me.

3. I'm not sure what El Dude is referring to, but I don't recall ever criticising the moderation on Tennis Frontier. I may have reported some posts - which I will do when I feel a line has been crossed, see above - but I always thought the moderation was well-judged and fair. I am sorry if this did not come across, or if I did not articulate it, as moderators have a difficult job at the best of times and deserve praise for doing it well.

Maybe I shouldn't have opened this thread at all - I just wanted those I'd had friendly discussions with to know I was leaving and why. Many thanks to those who suggested I should stay, but I don't think that's possible at this point, at least not for now. I don't plan to visit this thread again, and there is probably little to be gained in further discussion on it. I wish you all the best. Keep enjoying the tennis!

@mightyjeditribble : I hope I catch you before you go. You don't have to leave just because you opened this thread, if that's the reason. It was useful for you to have opened the discussion about attacking behavior, terminology, and board policy. None of us who administrate the forums are the owners of this site. It isn't completely up to us. Also, we are a work-in-progress here. I think it's completely clear that I share your views, and repulsion at certain types of speech, but this is the internet, and all kinds with all sorts of opinions will be around. Personally, I'd prefer if you were around to help balance such things out, and argue about them, when there is the energy. But it's up to you.

Respectfully. (To borrow masterclass's sign off.)

your repeated advertising of tail between your legs is getting boring :D what do you expect a carriage to walk you out?

has nobody taught you to toughen up? ouch, Margaret Court crossed the line, i crossed the line, so many people hurt your feelings......sign of the times, full of soft cocks floating around :lol6: but i don't have malicious intentions, so come back if you got balls to defend your position......just cry babying is ridiculous, and your repeated TP-exiting will be nothing but a laughing stock.

gracias....you got more 'balls' than the runner even as a girl
:lulz2: Coming from you, I'll take that as an olive branch. Though I don't expect the cease-fire to last long.
