Maybe next season team world can finally win laver cup with players like T.fritz, D.Shapovalov becoming much better players and maybe k.nishikori finally playing.

Russia isn't part of Europe so they should really have Medvedev too. Well, it's 50/50 (Europe/Asia) I guess. Maybe he can play 1 match for each side.

Maybe not now, but it could have potential.

You're right. I mean it's still early days and who knows how the tennis landscape changes when the big 3 are gone and people are talking more about the actual tennis rather than their glories.

The only way to make this event guaranteed to be a success every year is to make the teams fairly even. We cannot do it like Team Europe and Team World or anything like that. At any given moment stronger players may be coming from the same region and thus make the contest quite uneven.

We should create a match between Team ODD - all odd ranked players at an apriori designated date and Team EVEN - all even ranked players at an apriori designated date. Then, the teams would be by definition fairly balanced.

Now, you may say no one is going to be excited to cheer for team ODD or team EVEN as they are quite artificial. That is of course true. But, anyway the whole thing is artificial (considering tennis is an individual game) and at least this way it will be a good contest.

Honestly, the best format would be to do what the NBA has done with the All Star Game over the past two years: A draft. I think this would be by far the most exciting format.

The way it worked in the NBA is team captains took turns selecting players they want on their teams. Now to avoid hurt feelings, you can have the coaches select the players. It would be pretty cool to see Borg and Mac take turns picking players to form their teams. There's the whole "whoever gets chosen last will get their feelings hurt" thing but honestly, they should toughen up and count their money.

By the way, as cool as it has been, this event's success right now is literally only tied to the whole Federer-Nadal teammates thing. It makes sense as they're the two most popular tennis players in the world but it probably needs something sustainable down the road.

The next big 3 will be between 2020-2025 with Nadal, Medvedev and Auger-Aliassime. :smooch:

in australia, they're finally showing the LAVER cup by playing a highlights one hour package on one of our mainstream channels (Nine network) later today (saturday here) at 1pm, believe it or not.

Far out, man.:(
