She has really surprised me this year. Angie has always been a good player, but she has effectively turned herself into a great player. Her wheels, decision-making and composure is a pleasure to behold. Will definitely be rooting for her in the future, and on top of that she seems like a very sweet and nice young lady. Well played, Angie.
And a really good speech, as well. I'm liking her a lot, too.

As a devoted Graf fan, I must give Serena Williams credit on her equalling the germen with 22 GS.
That and also Williams work and training ethic and sheer love of the game. It was also nice to see the mutual respect Serena and Angelique share.

At present I can't see any one who is going to provide any competition do any of you ?
It would need to be another player who has nearly as big a serve and is left-handed. Someone will come along but that could be years away.

Good to see you @Robert Zimmerman

It was a high quality final and kudos to Serena for finally nailing the 22 count. I was also a big fan of Steffi Graf and I was watching Serena creep closer and closer before I thought it was just inevitable. Next on Serena's radar will likely be Margaret Court's 24 tally.

I think the competition is reasonably healthy right now. I think Angelique made her own statement in the final that the Australian Open was no fluke and that she's a gutsy competitor who will likely make more finals going forward. Also, Garbine will likely be a big player - just needs more consistency... and that will come. Vika was also playing great before she got injured.

So I think there are obstacles for Serena... none of the above will like be as dominant or be there at the end of every dance.... but as a collective together - the opposition is pretty good right now. Not the toughest Serena might have faced (probably the Henin rivalry takes that for me) but far from the weakest. Women's tennis is in a pretty good place right now and will only get better over the next 2 or 3 years.

I think Muguruza has a chance to do great things in the future, but she has a little growing up to do. She has all the skills, but also a little bit of the Sloane Stephens mindset.

Good on you britbox. Hey I want to invite you to take a look at my vid highlights of Graf vs Novotna, 1995 Ladies semifinal (part 1) highlights. When editing this it really was a case of what points and shots to leave out as nearly all the points were a classic. Wonderful speed around the court , volleying and use of the slice backhands by both champions. I don't know if we will ever see tennis played like this again.

This brought back some memories mate - Graf was so mobile on court and particularly on grass that backhand slice was a real weapon.

Tend to forget what a good grass courter Novotna was too.

Thanks for sharing :)
