Last year and this year, she was ranked so low she had to play qualies for the bigger events.
You have to think Errani pretty much done, at 30. There are too many bigger hitters out there, even amongst the smaller women. Her grit and movement worked for a while when there was more of a vacuum.

She was the ultimate female clay warrior. She traveled all over the globe playing any tourney on the dirt. It made her quite formidable on the stuff to the tune of an RG finals run. She's not as consistent now on top of the other things you've mentioned.

Seems to be an epidemic of retirements across the WTA right now.
I think it's Fed Cup and the clay. No one who won 2 singles matches in Fed Cup is playing in the finals this weekend of any tournament. Clay is a tougher surface to contend with. I'm sure it's a more difficult transition going from HC to clay.

So it's Wandeweghe and Pliskova in the finals?

Excellent job Pauline! She played Fed Cup last weekend and lost both singles matches to the US. She then gets on a plane and goes to Turkey to compete in this tournament. The 33 yr old hasn't won a title since 2008. :dance3:
