Glad Novak won, but I am also glad I didn't stay up for it!

Ditto here and I will not be pleased with the prospect of an encounter with Isner for Nole in this form.
I hope Ernie takes care of the job and dismisses Big John.

I'm not sure I can agree with all the "hoping Ernie beats John" that I've been reading. I do understand that if Nole goes on one of his patented walkabouts with Isner it could be all over. At the same time, Ernie has the type of power game that Stan used to hit him out of Oz. On paper, it might be "safer" to go with the known whack-job over the terminally boring giant, but be careful what you wish for Nole fans.

Yeah, I think either Gulbis or Isner could be tough for Nole depending on how he plays and how they play. It could end up being incredibly boring also, as Isner and Gulbis are not incredibly consistent.

Are there any stat gurus out there? When was the last time only two top 10
players were left in the draw when QF started in a major tournament (ATP 1000 or GS)?
No guesses, only facts.

It will have to be before 2009. Not so sure how many years before

In Bercy, usually weird things happen. If you check the past draws of Bercy,
one should be able to find a more recent one, I suspect.

The reason I would like to not see Isner playing Nole is because it was him who upset twice already Nole in NA masters and one of them was right here at IW.
If they would be playing again, it would be in my mind through the entire match, a deja vu scenartio which gave me enough headache by now.
And if someone woyld progress beyond Nole, I would better seen Ernie than John as well.

^this. Was at IW that year when Isner caught fire with his serve and Nole couldn't figure out what to do to break him. If I remember correctly, Fed dismantled Milos and Isner pretty methodically thereafter. ;)

Dolgo "handles" a 145mph serve from Raonic to get it to break point. Dolg wins the break point and goes up 2-0.

... and now 3-0.

Dolgo takes the first set 6-3!

I remember Novak's losses Isner. I've also seen some crushing tennis from Ernie this week. That said - if Novak were to lose, I'd much rather see Gulbis advance.

At this point, all I could wish for is that Novak had 6 brothers instead of 2 and played all of them here at IW. Anyways, at least he's still in the tourney, so I'm happy.

And yeah, Ernie more enjoyable to watch too. Like the person Isner though, but he should have played basketball or something.

I was looking at past results and draws of Indian Well and even though I know, it was incredible to see
that 10 years ago..it was Federer fighting it off with likes of Henman, Safin, etc..
Fast Forward 5 years, it was Federer fighting it off with like of Nole, Novak, Rafa, Berdych etc..
Fast forward 5 years, its still Federer fighting it off with likes of Raonic,Gulbis, Dolgo, etc..
Its amazing how consistent he has been, playing with generations and we still give this guy hard times when he loses

Novak is still in the tourney, and if Federer makes it to the finals, he'll hopefully face No1e.

Nicely won break point there by Dolgo.

Cheeky fellow waiting to receive inside the baseline against Raonic's 2nd serves. :snigger

I like! Missed Novak's match last night but glad he got through. Seemed a tough one, well the first set anyway.

I watched it this morning. Cilic was on in the first set and Novak was spraying shots. Second set, he was accelerating through his shots better and made Cilic run.
