Going forward, the first thing she needs to work on is her fitness and endurance. This is the 2nd consecutive match she started cramping in the 3rd set.

I think it was @herios who told us at the beginning of the tournament that he'd be hoping she'd do well, and it put her on my radar. Good call!

For sure, but she's just 18, and they said she's played 7 matches in a row, so it's also uncharted territory for her.

I saw her in Auckland when she played for the title. She played alot of matches there too as she was a quali and in the final she ran out of steam.

Kerber's one of the best players out there, has beaten Serena taking a couple of her majors, and she still hasn't taken a Premiere One event! Too strange! This is sorta like Stan W.; takes a major, then bows out in the 1st round of a 500 event to a qualifier! Love her tenacity, game, & comp., but come on! She didn't see her opponent was in trouble and should have known to make her move? She gave it away IMO! She'll remember this one for a while! Congrats to Bianca! Nice win and she earned it!  :ptennis:

Kerber played way too passive and it cost her, also UFE at critical times in the end,I thought she had the title when she broke Bianca, though as we have seen with this young woman 'never count her out' she was cramping badly in the end.:ptennis:

I think she tried to make Bianca run, and she did earn the break, but she's not as aggressive as Andreescu and paid the price. I like Kerber, but the better player on the day won today. Fantastic tournament for the young Canadian. She gave a shout-out to Tennis Canada in her speech, and they must be doing something right, with so many young players breaking out.

Congrats, Bianca. I did not see much of WTA matches this year and so don't really know how good Bianca is. Hope she does not end up with the likes of Ostapenko and Puig, who had a major success from out of the blue, but then went MIA.

I don't know what anyone else has said about all this. But Andreescu caught my eye, and I imagine a few of your eyes.... I guess last year. But then again early this year in Auckland. When I saw she was in Sloane's part of the draw, and Sloane has been struggling and THEN Voegele made it to Sloane, I knew Sloane was gonna lose that match. She always loses that match up. So I could see Andreescu doing well here. I thought she'd make the R16 or quarters. Semis at MAX. She's still just 18 of course. I was just glad she'd be able to help her ranking. Because even at 18 she's already just ranked to low based on what we saw in Auckland and she won the Newport Beach ITF (?) couple weeks ago. But man. What a run from her this week. She's fearless, which is what we saw in Auckland. She doesn't care who you are. And she will take on any shot at any time. She has complete belief in herself.

Bencic making the semis, TOTALLY saw that coming. I thought she might win the whole thing. Keep her win streak going. Her performance against Kerber was disappointing to say the least. But Kerber was great in that match. As she was all week. Still played well today. Just not well enough down the stretch. Andreescu completely deserves it. Wang and Muguruza (at the moment) aren't exactly the toughest seeds to deal with. But Svitolina is no easy out. Even if she does still struggle with these big matches. And Kerber has 3 slams in 3 years for a reason. Fantastic play from her all week. I know people will be annoyed with her junk balls and all that. But, you do what you gotta do.

With that said. Because I'm already a huge Sloane fan and a big Osaka fan and Serena ain't dead and I respect Kerber and Halep and I'd love to see Kvitova win more and Muguruza make a comeback and show her truly dominant self, and I'm a big Bencic fan and am thrilled she's back to her best or close to it and I'm still waiting for Vika to find "it" again.... I just don't know that I can really add Andreescu into the mix. Like. I'm American, not Canadian. And, I don't wish her ill. But I got goals for all the people I'm already a fan of. She steppin in QUICK. She not waitin for 20 or 21 like Osaka. Indian Wells at 18 is HUGE. It's entirely possible she'll struggle for the next year or more as she acclimates and she'll never surprise anyone again. But winning this, this early, says she can win NOW. Again. There was no Sloane, or Halep or Sabalenka or Osaka or Bencic or Serena in her way. But she still did it. She took advantage of the draw and pulled it off. All kudos to her.

Here's to Sloane defending Miami (which would be the first time she's ever defended a title, so I'm not gettin my hopes up. Especially after her terrible year so far. Also, it's the new venue this year. So it's literally not even the same tournament.)

Quite an interesting stat so far this season in the WTA

There have been 13 WTA events with 13 different winners. Not one repeat winner.I think this has to be a first!

They said the same about the men; 18 Tourneys with 18 different winners! Usually we'd have Nole with at least 3! I'll live with the AO!
