^Aside from the cheating incident(s?), there is something irritating about him - not exactly sure what it is. I think it goes beyond the usual "Hulk smash!" players being boring.

I would disagree with that assessment, as I think Thiem is a comparable talent to Kei, at least on clay.

But I mainly said that because Nishikori is arguably the greatest player of the Open Era not to win a Masters. I would say that Thiem is, right now, the best clay player not to win a clay big title.

He must be gutted over that Madrid masters final. He was on absolute fire before he got injured.

What a bummer? Where is the tennis commissioner? Change H2H to 23-16 at least.

Not likely! Nadal likes having that record over the GOAT to reinforce his own claim! Gutless; skipping Miami as well! Ya can't win if you don't play! That's another title he still doesn't possess that Nole had a handful of &'s still the Golden Masters KING! "Such a fan" I know! :p

And Djokovic the great never played a single masters final in best of 5 format and has had it a lot easier than Federer and Nadal. Numbers don't tell the whole story at all.

Apologies to all of our Canadian friends here, but I just can’t stand watching Raonic. I really hope Thiem wins this.
No worries my friend. I got used to this sentiment, reflects the majority here on this board.

New Nishikori?

Thiem is nothing at all compared to Kei. Kei is capable of a very high level of tennis actually really fast and explosive on the court. He's beaten Djokovic at USO and defeated Federer at Miami. Thiem has not done anything remarkable till now.

Man, you have not been watching. Thiem have beaten Nadal on clay three times, and gave a hell of a fight in three other occasions. I like Nishikori, but this is at least as remarkable as what he did.

I am obviously rooting for Thiem, but you if you are watching Raonic you need to pay attention to what he does well. Apart from serving, his volleys are world class. Thiem is giving him some very tough shots to deal with and he made some miracles.

I think Raonic is a bit on the spectrum, slightly asperger’s. He strikes me as very bright in a bookish way. That could be why people don’t embrace him.

Fed h2h against Thiem is 4-2
Against Raonic is 4-3

Raonic seems to be a more dangerous player due to his serve and ability to volley. Let’s see what happens tomorrow. I’m feeling sorry for the people who bought tickets to see Fedal.

One can be sympathetic but still point out such things. I'm sympathetic to his knee injury and, if you remember, said that he genuinely looked hobbled vs. Khachanov and complemented him on his clinical destruction of the Game of Thrones cast member. If anything, I quoted him because it seemd out of character. He usually doesn't resort to saying such things.
Probably I'm just feeling petulant and put-upon, too. :lol6:

Federer is 11-3 against Raonic, and 2-2 against Thiem.

Smart play but bad execution on BP by Thiem. Got lucky.
