That "overzealous commentator" is no one small but John McEnroe himself. While commenting for ESPN at AO2017 and AO2018, Mac said both times, that in his mind, Federer's game is "better now than it used to be 10 years ago when he was 25-26". And as not to leave any doubt about what he means, he added that "The Federer of today would beat the Federer of 2008".

2017/2018 Federer would beat 2008 Federer. Both would be hopelessly crushed by 2004-2006 Federer.

On one hand it's encouraging that Djokovic is playing but on the other I seriously wonder if it's way too soon. I guess we will find out.

I agree Djokovic could make the some Errors del potro, did a few times, then he come back to soon. But at least there is someone that could beat Federer, But its likely federer would rollover djokovic.

Not to be pessimistic, but I agree with you and Darth that it doesn't seem prudent. Also, have we ever learned why he had a bandaged (right) hand before whatever procedure he had on his right elbow? He could have taken another month+ and come back for clay. I guess we'll see.

Young hotshot Felix Auger-Aliassime is in the main draw. He's the first man born in the 2000s to get into a Masters 1000.
I hope he picks up his game, because so far this year he has been a dissapointment on the Challenger circuit.

It is also only his second ATP Pro Tour match, his first being a first round three-set loss to Krajinovic at Rotterdam.

The worrying thing is that I seem to remember him eating a few bagels this year... I guess I remember at least three different ones.

He also lost to thomas fabbiano in Marseille (Fabbianos only victory on tour since Vienna)

I think he is very inconsistent at the moment. He had 2 good wins here in the qualifying rounds, but before in the past 2 months some not too good showings. I have the feeling this applies to the majority of the up and comers.
