Funny I haven't taken this tourney seriously since the days of Borg, Connors, McEnroe, Edberg, & Becker! It was never telecast and we were lucky to get highlights of the matches; usually because of John's histrionics during the tourney! Without Tomas' addition as a wildcard, they wouldn't have even had a player in the top 10! Boy this event has fallen on hard times! :puzzled :nono  :dodgy: :cover

Just a few things about this tournament: the tournament director is none other than Robin Söderling and they are also using his very popular RS_Tennis balls. A pity there aren't more top guys playing here to give their views on Robin's balls (larf larf ya pervs lol) as they're meant to be excellent.

https://twitter.com/RS_Tennis_

Was doing some searching for stuff on this tournament too and found this about Joachim Johansson:

"This is what happend yesterday when i served with a speed gun:

Yesterday i went to If... Stockholm Open with my kids. I helped my, 3 year old, daughter serving with the speed gun before i was asked from the person responsible.

- Do you also want to try?
- Yes please (i was dressed in normal clothes and not warmed up)
- I think you need a bigger racket she said (not the kids racket).
I took a Prince Rebel racket and started serving. I got the speed gun up to maximum speed before it showed "error". Then she said.
- Have you played before?
- Yes i have. Im the former world record holder of most aces in a match (51), fastest serve (245 km/h) and most serves games won in a year (92%)..."

Guess "error" means he's still serving absolute bullets! Pity injuries ruined his career. He had a beastly serve.

Disappointing for Jarkko Nieminen to go out like that in a very close match where he was 2 points from winning. Now officially retired. Would've fancied his chances against the completely underachieving Dimitrov in the next round.

That was his last match ever? If so, that was disappointing.

Actually, nope. My apologies, his last match will be against Federer in November. Just did some googling there and he'll play in front of a home crowd in Finland for his final match which is a nice send off. Wonder if Roger will let him win :)

I will miss him. Saying his name a few times to myself always brought a smile to my face. And gave me a craving for some M&Ms.

What the.... You think Tomic has finally turned a corner and it ready to ascend, and then he loses to..

BAGHDATIS?! :eyepop

I know Baggy is a wiley 'ol veteran but still. Come on, Bernie.

Meanwhile, Sock socks it to Verdasco! I was a bit worried about this one so good job Jack! :clap

Well actually my first post yesterday seemed to be correct in that Jarkko Nieminen's loss yesterday was indeed his last ever tour level match. The match against Federer next month in Finland is of course just an exhibition so it was a shame Jarkko lost yesterday having been 2 points from winning in straight sets.

An exhibition: that makes sense.
