aussie 273-8, a bouncey but flatish 1st day wicket and England come out on top according to general view,

stuart broad laughs off feeble aussie attempts at 'mental disintergration' by claiming a 'five fer'. jimmy 2 wks also, aussie captain Michael Clarke leads from the front with a massive score of '1'..lol.

One of the most awesome bowling from Johnson. I just loved the match and saw almost most of it. Worth it to wake up 5:30 every day for 4 days :D

Hey guys, the cricket was crap from an England perspective but it was a great time at the Gabba. Much better atmosphere than I was perhaps expecting - more like a football atmosphere from the Brit fans.

This was the German Bar we went in across the road from the Gabba... This was absolutely heaving with brits later and the beer was flowing.

^^excellent pics britbox :celeb: unlike the result of the first test..which wasn't excellent at all.

german boozer and palm trees :snigger

..did the 'locals' give the English players any aggro in the field as we slid inexorably towards a gloomy and unexpected defeat ?.

Yeah, the England players fielding near the boundary were getting loads of grief - think it was Pietersen mainly - even though he was signing tops and giving autographs etc. between balls.

Quite a lot of brits there, although apparently the Gabba try and spread them around so they don't form one big mob. There was a couple of hundred by us singing away and giving the locals some grief.

Great photos, BB, sounds like you had a great day. I was reading an article about all the sledging that's going on, it seems a bit OTT. Let the bat and ball do the talking, right? But England collapsed and will have to respond. I don't think either side is a great side, but you don't want to give the Aussies too much encouragement either...

yes I noticed the lack of English fans singing..sneaky aussie splitting up the fans :nono on TMS Aggers and co said something similar..also they said a lot of fans will fit in 2 festive tests and travel down under for Christmas/new year tests in Sydney/Melbourne.

They also hand out green and gold sun visors free to anyone, so it highlights the local support. There were a lot more brits there than it looked on TV.

yes the locals have devised a few sneaky methods of reducing the impact of the English fans..

you had a fast moving thunderstorm on one of the days, did you go everyday or one day ??..I couldn't believe those security blokes were standing in a massive circle around the wicket during the lightning show,

its not brave..its just stupidity taken to new levels.

now the England squad are poncing about in alice springs / aryes rock.

they are not even playing a proper first class match of 3 or 4 days in between first and second test,

what is a 2 day non first class status hit n giggle match supposed to achieve ??. :nono:huh:

still at least swanny and monty have been blowing on an aboriginals big didgereedoo (oo er)..and standing around in the desert trying to look cool.

..bahhh.

Kallis is an interesting pick. I think I had him as my twelfth man on about my fifth revision. Definitely underrated - terrific all rounder and can understand why he'd be in a team. Sobers is in a league of his own then you go down a rung to Imran, Hadlee, Botham, Kallis, Kapil Dev.... Maybe Kapil Dev being at the bottom of that group.

Guilty. Since moving to US several years ago, not following cricket that closely.
While I have not watched Kallis bat or play, his stats looked impressive. Is he still
active?

Jacques kallis has to go in, 13'000 test runs at 56ish, 288wks at 32ish and he is amazing in the slips..around 170 catches I think its equalling the world record,

when I see him batting he makes it seem so easy. he is up there with gary sobers for me as best all rounder ever...kallis batting is world class on its own.

..its tough to decide, I agree.

yes Kallis is still going he is 37/38yrs old..his bowling has tailed off in recent times, and he has had some niggling injuries the last year or so..but he due to play in the south Africa vs india test series..even if it is only 2 tests thanks to india throwing their weight around and the S. Africa caving in.
