Carol, Federer won his last exactly three years ago at Wimbledon 2012. He was 30 then.

Why is that so unbelievable? Look at Nadal; both have good first 'half' seasons with plenty of AO's, FO's, and Masters wins between them! It's pretty normal for Rafa to go on hiatus after winning his FO's, but for a couple times; the last being 2013! He hasn't been the same player since! With all Nole has done this season with 2 majors and 4 Masters, I wouldn't be surprised if he had a tired summer! Anything after today is gravy IMO! He's been pret' near perfect; burnout can be right around the corner! I've just been so shocked how Nole gets himself motivated, ready, and winning in the fall taking the Asian tour events and another WTF w/o losing a match? Can he match that for a 3rd straight "year-end?" uzzled  :dodgy:

By throwing Nadal in, you are muddying the waters. While Rafa is traditionally known to fade away in the later half. Novak does not have such a reputation. Based on his game, Novak is supposed to excel on HC's much better that Wimby, but his results don't match that expectation and hence the surprise.

You're twelve months too late on that second part.

Well, in all fairness he did say "this year".

In fairness, you only overthrow someone once unless they get back to their thrown. So "overthrowing" Federer took place last year. This year, Novak just defended his throne.

Which is one of a few reasons I'd never give "GOAT" honors to Nadal; his inability to have consecutive full seasons of great results! It can get embarrassing if I were a Nadal fan to see how ineffectual his game can be in those late season indoor and HC tourneys! The WTF has just been a nightmare; one year ('09) losing all 3 of his RR matches and not qualifying for the semis! How does a GOAT nominee allow that to occur year in and year out; now with horrible Wimbledon results for the last 4 seasons? :cover :eyepop uzzled :nono

Not nearly as embarrassing as yours would be for Rafa if he read English.

Rafa may own Roger, but come on; overall Federer's had the greater career and more consistency year in and year out! There's no comparison; even at 14 majors and a ton of Masters 1000 win! Rafa's being challenged by Nole in a lot of ways and only time will tell if he'll surpass all those numbers; well on his way with 9 majors (5 behind) and 24 Masters (3 behind)! :clap  :dodgy:
