Bradly Klahn gets a good win over Brands as well. The lefty has some game.

I don't even know that guy's name, but that's good to hear. With the Sock win over Haas, and Steve Johnson over Baggy, it looks like a mini-stand by the US guys. Unlikely to amount to much, I'm sure…just feels rare, at this point. Also, Kohlshcreiber beat Zeballos, but that should be expected.

Bautista-Agut beat Paire (6 seed) in straights. That wasn't expected.

I mentioned Klahn yesterday as one of the guys reaching a new career high in the rankings thread (95).
Good to see him making more noise.
Of course one win here there will not mean much for this young players from US, but better for them to win matches than to put on some lame performances once they get into the top 100 then fall back out of it. Because that is the pattern in the most recent months. There are a bunch of young americans, all ranked tightly between 80-120. Ultimately some will develop and become a stable player in the top 100 and lead the way. Because behind Isner and Querrey has been a big gap ever since Harrison fizzled.

Steve Johnson takes out a bigger name out, 4th seeded Anderson 7-5, 6-4, This is a really great result for the 160 ranked guy, taking out the 20 ranked.

Johnson impressed me when I saw him in person last year. Massive serve, huge kick on second.

Wicked topspin forehand too.

Khlan practices where I play. Solid six footer. I watched about a dozen of his workouts last year.

Hits often with Haas's coach/trainer.

Great athlete and hungry.

Heartbreaker for Kohlschreiber…Isner wins in the TB. No breaks of serve. That could have gone either way.

It could have gone either way, but not with equal chance. Isner has a clear advantage
in tie-breaks. Look at his record in tbs. He basically makes a living out of tie-breaks.

F: Isner vs. Lu

Good for Ferrer that he lost. Will keep him fresh for the AO for a change.

has ferrer jumped the shark ?..he won this Auckland atp250 last year..the points loss of 250 down to 90 for the sf here puts him closer to losing his no3 rank to del potro..which leads me to say>>>>>

the final should be an exciting early season bonus (tomic v jmdp)..if tomic isn't 'up for it' with the chance to retain his one and only title and with Captain Vamos waiting at the aussie open then he might as well ponce around on the beach 24-7 with all the other Big Wednesday folk.

Here he is in a notorious clip with Alex Bogomolov, Jr.
