The idea that the Nadal-Djokovic 2012 AO final was this long boring snooze-fest is one of the most baffling pieces of narratives to emerge from this forum, and I only see this spread around here. It was a great match. Was it too long if you have no emotional investment in it? Well, nobody wants to do the same thing for 6 hours so I can see that point of view. But quality wise it was very good.

No where, did I imply, or even MEAN to imply that was a boring final.

I was simply referencing the length.

Your response was: "Errrr...who played the longest Slam final of all time???? Not Murray-Joker.

Who played a 4 hour two out of three match? Not Murray-Joker..."

He didn't mention a single thing about match length, he mentioned boredom, and you replied by bringing up Nadal-Djokovic matches, so you can clearly see why it would be interpreted as you implying those matches weren't entertaining.

Focus on the words "wars of attrition" counselor. Good man.

While I prefer more a game of shotmaking than a game of athleticism, the development of the game must be accepted as long as it is achieved with allowed methods.

I think more variety in court speeds would be welcome. We'd see different playing styles succeeding plus I think players having to deal with different conditions would develop different skills, something that might be useful also elsewhere.

Interesting notion.

The Aussie Open used faster balls this year, and the players were claiming faster courts, but still...long rallies, and long matches.

I think you are not going to a change in playing style unless they speed up the courts by a minimum of 25%. Players at the top have been playing this athletic style of endurance power tennis since they were juniors and it would be difficult for them if not impossible to abandon that.

It is possible if Sampras were around they would never let him go to a one handed back hand and he would have been pummeling from the baseline, and possibly even sliding on hard court.
