The newly promoted ATP 500 Grass Tourney at Halle is kicking off in a couple of days. The draw is out.
It is a 32 player draw with no byes for anybody. As usual, although the field is good, it is weaker than that at Queens.

Here is Fed's Path.

1st Rd: Kohlschrbrier
2nd Rd: Gulbis / Stakhovsky
QF: Tomic
SF: Berdych / Karlovic
F: Monfils / Kei

Kind of manageable, but no guarantees.

I'm waiting for Front to give me every player's grass record and undermine each of Fed's upcoming wins. It's only fair.

Well smartass tell me this....do you not agree that Baghdatis has done nothing at all of note since 2006 and only Carol claimed Tomic was a very good player? Most would say he's far from very good and totally inconsistent and Baggy has been on the challenger circuit the last few years.

Out of the guys above, Karlovic has won Newport (a grass tournament as you surely know) without me even checking, Kohlschreiber beat Nadal at Halle a while back, hardly a huge scalp but there you go. Gulbis is nothing like the player he was before he hurt his shoulder so Roger will likely play Stakhovsky who should provide good opposition.

Lol @ bringing up anything Karlovic won, especially now that he's 67 years old.

Lol @ Stakhovsky being good opposition.

Lol @ Nadal not being a huge scalp.

This is insane.

Tough semi if Berd makes it. Other than that Roger shouldn't be challenged by those other guys on grass, including Kei. Even if he messes up this tourney it is about Wimbledon, time for the old man to show he can still play.

For a first rounder it is very tough that's for sure. Koleslaw can play but Roger should take care of business.

Nadal on fast grass is not a big scalp. It's actually expected he'll lose to a guy with a decent serve and penetrating ground strokes on a fast grass court. He's been taken out by these types of players numerous times now as you know and even in his prime he got taken to the woodshed by nobodies on the faster grass in the first few rounds of Wimbledon. Kohlschreiber has an outstanding backhand and good forehand and he also had home crowd support when he beat him at Halle, which is the fastest grass court around besides Newport. Karlovic is a much tougher opponent on fast grass than mr inconsistency Tomic, unless it's making stupid news headlines or Baghdatis who's on the challenger circuit now for quite some time and hasn't been a player of note for 9 years. Yes, he's done nothing noteworthy since 2006. Compare a guy like that to a serve bot who causes everyone trouble on fast surfaces and I think you know which is the harder match and also, Karlovic has won a grass title as I pointed out, while Tomic and Baghdatis have not. You might not have watched Stakhovsky the time he beat Federer at Wimbledon but it appears he's quite good on grass. 6'4" with a decent serve and good volleying skills. I think that makes him tougher than Tomic and Baghdatitis (lol). Can't stop laughing at Baghdatis being called a good player still in 2015. Priceless.

I completely agree. Kohly has performed very well at this tournament over the years and will have some crowd support being a local guy. Assuming Rog can clear that, I see only Berdych as the problem.

But, I don't sweat too much over Halle as

1. Roger has won Wimbledon after winning in Halle.
2. Roger has won Wimbledon after skipping Halle.
3. Roger has won Wimbledon after losing in Halle.

So, even though it would be good to win Halle, it does not have much of a predictive value.

But, I do hope that Roger clears the fist match as it will give some match practice on grass before Wimby.

You're aware Kohlschreiber beat Nadal at Halle in 2012, before Nadal was losing to these "scrubs" and when he had reached 5 Wimbledon finals in as many appearances.

Call me crazy but I think reaching the semis at Wimbledon is much more impressive than winning a no name tournament in which nobody participates in.

Yes, one win in an entire career, that happened 3 years ago, makes him a good opponent. One win in a career of hundreds of matches. One...win.

Also, show me where I called Baghdatis a good player still...

What's the difference between losing to the scrubs since 2012 and being taken to the woodshed by them? Even in his prime he was playing 5 setters against nobodies in the early rounds like Kendrick, Haase, Petzschner and needing gamesmanship to beat them.

Yeah, great, in 2006 as I said. That has huge relevance in 2015 :laydownlaughing Your posts normally make more sense than that ffs. :s

We shall see. If Federer makes it past Kohlschreiber we'll find out how good Stakhovsky is and it's not a given he will as Kohli's a good player on grass and at Halle with home crowd support he'll be tough to beat.

I didn't say you said Baghdatis was a good player, it was Carol who also called Tomic a very good player when results would tell you he's not. Although, thinking about it again, you just made a bizarre reference to Baghdatis' result at Wimbledon 2006 as if it means something in 2015. :cover Maybe Sampras should play so in 2015 seeing as he won it a few times?

Don't be dense. I made a reference to Baghdatis' result at Wimbledon 2006 to highlight his unfulfilled potential. It was a reflection on his career that had nothing to do with the match with Nadal. Please stop cluttering the boards with garbage posts.

PS: All of this is quite rich from the guy who talks about Soderling and Haas as if they are any relevant in 2015.

That's rich coming from the guy who spammed loads of threads right after the RG final. Congrats to Stan the man fans (which you started as a totally tongue in cheek thread) and commiserations to Nole. Good one. And yes, I'm well aware of the unfulfilled potential from 9 friggin years ago, that's why it's irrevelant and why I said so multiple times already. Nalbandian made the Wimbledon final in 2002 and the quarters in 2005 but so what, see the rest of his results. It's the same with Baghdatis. He is no longer a good player for 9 years. It's not really hard to grasp. Haas had a year off and another shoulder surgery and is 37. If he had no pain in his shoulder he'd be winning more matches. Soderling isn't playing in case you hadn't noticed and I never said he was relevant so stop making things up. I mentioned he's trying to come back. Guess you weren't very good at the spot the difference games in school. :cover

Broken and Front. That's enough. You've derailed this thread before the tournament even started.

In 2011 Tomic reached his first GS singles quarterfinal in Wimbledon thus becoming the youngest player since Becker in 1986 . That year he also gave a tough time to Federer on grass in Sydney. Later the injuries have not allowed him to advance enough but I see him doing better now
He is not a superb player but a good one who can give hard time to anyone, so we'll see what he will do in this tournament

Lukas Rosol and Segiy Stakhovsky have joined forces and formed a doubles team here. Everybody watch out. ;)

Yep, it was a DC and Wawrinka was beaten by Tomic
