The Tournament:

The GERRY WEBER OPEN is one of seven grass-court events on the calendar, re-categorised as an ATP World Tour 500 tournament from 2015. Held since 1993, the event is played on four outdoor grass courts and is a part of the ATP World Tour 500 series on the ATP Tour schedule. The event has been upgraded as of 2015 from a 250 series to a 500 series tournament.

The Centre Court (the Gerry Weber Stadion) has 12,300 seats and a retractable roof which can be closed in 88 seconds so that tennis games can continue with a closed roof when it begins to rain.

The Players:

No.1 seed Roger Federer has dominated this tournament in recent times, winning eight titles. He is joined in Halle by Kei Nishikori, Toms Berdych and Dominic Thiem to head up a strong field.

Some tasty first rounders:

Coric v Goffin
Zverev v Troicki
Pouille v Nishikori

are the ones that stand out for me.

Watching the replay of Nishi-Pouille match. The roof is on and the noise of the rain is awful, not even it can't hear the sound of the balls. And Nishi needed the trainer call, it's not a good sign even that he won

Goffin beat Coric, but it was a tight 3. Nice for Coric, who is still a teenager, to hang with a very trending player.

it's over for Fritz
Bummer. But at least he went 3. Berdych's woes continue, as Baggy gets him in straights. And Tomas was up a break in a good bit of the 2nd, then lost in a TB, with a lot of UFEs.

That was a frustrating match to watch Moxie. Coric has the skills to be an offensive player, but feels safer ceding the baseline and playing further back. Goffin was not his usual sharp self, but he took advantage of the court position throughout most of the match. Credit to Coric that at times he did try to play up, but he has a lot of work to do.

Thanks for that, EG. I only had just noticed the score, but didn't see the match.
