7 titles each at halle and Wimbledon. the awesomeness continues.

and 2 titles this year is already double the amount of titles he won last season.

Not too happy about the 2nd sentence. Hopefully he can win a few more than 2  He did set himself a goal of 5 this year though so it's early days yet I guess and it's not like those five were gonna be 4 slams and the WTF anyway :snigger

I think Roger's got a M1000 or two in him, maybe Cincy or Paris. Basel is on the cards too. I like to think he could have a decent shot at the two remaining slam events but he doesn't seem too fussed with second weeks of slams these days.

I know Roger is the only player in the Open Era with ten or more titles on all three surfaces (not counting indoor surfaces as a separate surface, although it arguably should be). He has 14 on grass, 10 (I believe) on clay and then that means he has something like 55 titles on hard courts. Is that correct?

Is that first part true? Couldn't Connors somehow make the same claim among his 16,483 titles? ;)

I saw it on TV during a match or a talk session. Connors came to mind to me too, but then I thought a bit more about it and I can think Connors won 2 Wimby's and his first US Open on grass. If the AO was still on grass in 1974 (and I am betting it was), then that would give him 4 grass court titles. Did he win Queens at least 6 times? I doubt it, and I don't think he'd have played Halle back then. So, it may be he falls short on grass, but I think he won at least 10 titles on clay (counting Har-Tru green clay as well).

Jimmy won 10 on grass and 12 on clay, funny enough. Didn't think he had so many clay titles...

EDIT: They sold you a pup, Shawn! :p

For the record, Connors did win 10 titles on grass, he won Queens three times and three other tournaments in addition to the slams. Check out his stats here:

AO was grass upto including 1987 at kooyong.

tennis australia were threatened by ITF that they'd lose major status if facilities were not improved, so tennis Australia decided on completely new build..in the process decided to change to HC when opened in time for 1988 AO.

Obviously, I stand corrected. So, is it Connors and Federer as the only two in the Open Era with at least ten titles on all three surfaces?

Postscript--I just checked on the ATP site and it appears only Connors and Federer have done this (I did not check on Lendl as I know he did not win many on grass, if any). Obviously, Laver and Rosewall were a little late to the hard court world and played most of their tennis before the Open Era so I did not check on them either.

Lendl won Queens quite convincingly over Becker one year IIRC!
