The appearance fees must have been sizable -- otherwise why would they have chosen to play a 250 the week before RG?

Cilic definitely needs the practice. But Wawrinka? Maybe he didn't expect to get to the Rome Semifinals. Can he drop out?

I saw that earlier and thought of nehmeth, who mentioned discovering there were 2 recently ago, and maybe wondered what would happen if they played each other. I would love to have watched, if only to see the chair struggle with "Advantage Souza" or "Advantage Sousa." You can't even use the first names, like with Venus and Serena. Did he call it like a Davis Cup? "Advantage Portugal." Anyway, the more accomplished Sousaphone won.

At this point, I'll take ANY win by the good doctor. My guess is that he retires from the singles circuit by the end of the year.

:hug :D

It is possible, he is getting up in age. Is he still playing doubles regularly? It escaped my attention, but I keep track of F3 regularly and give a come on to KA47 when I see him play.:D

Not sure about the doubles thing, Billie. I don't follow doubles all that much. I'm still trying to figure out why I like F3. Maybe he's either a Jedi Master, or I'm weak-minded, or both...Because I normally H-word athletes like him. Regarding KA74...I really like him, but also realize that he's probably as good as he's ever gonna be...a second tier player who doesn't have the game to ever beat any of the big guns.

And I have to add, the presence of a player in the last week in an event before a GS does not always mean his chances will be compromised at the upcoming slam.
Last year, Gulbis entered Nice and went all the way and won it, then he followed it up with his best ever run in a slam.
What really matters is the form. Plus you have a day off after each round.

No worries, I'll find out about good doctor and his doubles encounters, or herios will just tell us.:D

I like F3 because he makes me laugh when I see him, his walk, his attitude, his tantrums. He is also good looking and when he sets his mind to it, he can really play tennis! And he beat folks the last two times, don't forget that.;)

KA74 did beat Nole once, there is nothing wrong with liking a second tier player, I like a lot of them even though most people don't really care about "scrubs". I am scouting for a new fave after Nole is gone, but so far nothing has come up on my radar. I doubt I would be passionate about anybody as much as I am about Nole, but it's understandable. I am following a young Serbian player on Facebook, he is funny and a solid player, but he is almost 21 and still plays challengers and is in mid 200 in rankings.:nono

Well, it is ok if you are Gulbis. But, definitely not a good idea if you are a top 10 player.
In isolation itself, it is not a good idea. If you consider that this is coming on the heels of
Madrid and Rome, it is definitely a bad idea. If he does not even get an appearance fee,
it is a very bad idea.

But, I am sure Stan will do better than last year at RG despite this. :snicker
