The Tournament:

The Banque Eric Sturdza Geneva Open joins Gstaad and Basel on the ATP World Tour calendar, as the first of three Swiss tournament stops. The ATP World Tour 250 tournament, which returned to the Swiss city in 2015 for the first time since 1991, is staged at the Tennis Club de Genève at the Parc des Eaux-Vives, the oldest and largest tennis club in Switzerland.

The Players:

Wawrinka is the top seed, but he hasn't made much of his clay season, so far. Also, David Ferrer, a perennial on clay, is struggling and coming off injury. Kohlschreiber could be the Dark Horse here.

About Geneva:

Known both as the «smallest of big cities», or the «city of peace», Geneva, among other things, is home to the European headquarters of UNO. The quayside of Lake Geneva, the parks, the old alleyways and smart boutiques are an invitation to a leisurely stroll.

Geneva is linked to Europe's capital cities by its international airport, motorways and railway network. It is the seat of a number of major multinationals, as well as the International Red Cross Committee.

Today, Switzerland's second largest city is home to around twenty international organisations. The permanent missions of over 160 States represent their governments in the city's international conferences and organisations.

Geneva is a centre focused on the international economy. Whether private corporate or business, finance, in its widest sense, undeniably plays a major economic role in Geneva, which is a base for around a hundred foreign banks.

A couple of interesting things to note for tomorrow: Tipsarevic v. Delbonis. Maybe our Serbian friends can tell us what's been going on with Tipsy. Young Christian Garin qualified. He was someone we had an eye on, who hasn't done much lately. He'll play Carreño Busta, who is trending, and won't likely get out of his first round. Also, Querrey v. GGLopez could be good. Also, Gulbis is playing. B-)

Christian garin is 20 on may30th, ranking is still nowhere, 300s i think,

that singles win aged 16 in vina del mar 2013 where rafa started his comeback seems like 534yrs ago rather than 3,

Yes, but, I personally had no expectations of Carreño Busta, and he's busting it out pretty good now. Garin might be a slow-burner...you never know.

I have no idea why Janko decided to even play here, he lost in a challenger a couple of weeks ago in the 2nd round. And clay was never his thing anyway.

I don't think Ferrer will be in the Top 20 in 18 months.... the fall will be steady.
If he gets back to full-strength and health, that may or may not be true, but, if so, probably a feature of the rise of GenNext than anything else. Perhaps that's what you're thinking. But if he's healthy, he's still got the fitness and mentality to outplay the less experienced for another year, imo. At least enough to stay relevant.
