At least he's playing.
Still, don't you think that if he's fit, he will feel he needs the play before RG? I don't so much mind the ones playing the week before when they've been out long, like Chung. Goffin and Shapo, however, wisely withdrew.I think he got some app fee in this tourney when he first signed up. You never know. He may have contract for x number of years playing in this tourney for some app fee.
I guess you're just generally giving him a hard time for having a contract with Geneva, not esp. this year. I think the reasons you state: that he needs the play and it's his "home tourney" (Francophone Switzerland) are reasons enough. No reason to diss him by saying he's "milking" an appearance fee. If he were playing a lot, highly ranked and amongst the favorites at RG, then, yeah, I'd say he was cynically (and unwisely) going for the dosh. In this case, I think he needs the match-play, and the circumstances should be good for the confidence. As a point in his defense, though, like Nadal and Barcelona, or sometimes Fed and Basel: it's hard to resist the tournament that makes you feel at home.Stan has not played much this clay season. So for him it is a good idea to play here, especially considering this tourney is in his home country. However, I think the main reason he is playing here (not necessarily this year, but when he originally signed up for this tourney) is to milk some app fee. When this tourney started, he was a top 8 player.

Not everyone is affected negatively if they play right before a slam.
Stan is one of those cases, last year he played here to the week end and won it, then he went all he way to the final in Paris at RG.
I think we all might be in agreement that Stan isn't really an example of anything, I mean in terms of patterns. (Especially those awful shorts. ) I'm not feeling that he's got another run in him, tbh, in terms of a Major. This knee problem has been long-term, and he's 33. My guess is that he's going to go back to being a spoiler, at best, once he's healthy, and then fade out.Ya, but Stan is always unpredictable. You never know when he will catch fire. So, you cannot use him as an example.
Saw that...good point.Another "dangerous floater" took a beatdown today:
Fucsovics def. Ramos Vinolas 6-1, 6-2!!

Ferrer lost today to Gojo. @GameSetAndMath, I was going to debate that Ferrer was probably not worthy of the "dangerous floater" group for RG, but I felt too loyal to say that. Sadly, I do think he's falling off, and I don't expect him to make noise at RG. I'm not even sure he'll be dangerous in the first round.
Stan looked good today in his win. Anyone see that the nearly forgotten Lukas Rosil (now ranked #286) is in the draw? The Man'll start today vs Donaldson, wish him the best of luck I'm a big Stan's fan
