Yeah, there's a difference between an historical rival and a guy who played great sniper shots in the quarters...

Buddha, er sorry, Agassi said:

“Nadal has an argument to make for the best of all time,” Agassi said. “If Nadal is sitting at a table with Federer and Federer says, ‘I’m the best ever,’ my first question would be, ‘Well, then how come you didn’t beat me, because I beat you twice as many times? And, hey, by the way, you know I won everything, including a gold medal [in singles at the Olympics] and Davis Cup [with Spain].’

Santoro and Safin's conversation might be interesting too.

santoro and marat never competed for slams, masters 1000s, or Olympic Gold..or for the #1 ranking, or for the GOAT label.

Slams, Masters, Olympics, YECs, Time at #1... Who won what is already decided. You're framing a view by Agassi on a mano-mano H2H that avoids discussion of other items on the agenda and focuses solely on a H2H (apart from an Olympics and Davis Cup). You can either a) make it all-inclusive to focus on everything or b) restrict it to a H2H. if you're using (b) only, then the Santoro/Safin analogy has legs.

No, he used H2H strictly in the context of GOAT. That's it.
