I noticed those errors too, especially the last one on the slam difference is really bad. I generally agree with the points being made though. I still think he should play one of the MS events, maybe Madrid. It is still "clay" even if RG plays way different. Playing Rome, RG and then possibly 2 grass tourneys before Wimbledon is a lot of tennis in a 6-7 week span. If he plays Rome I hope he skips Stuttgart

I could bet he plays Rome.

It wouldn't surprise me either if he asked for a late wildcard... but last year he said the clay courts made his knee feel funny and we know what happened later. It's kind of "Watch this space..." territory... On Twisted's point, I don't really see the point of him playing Madrid... other than the scheduling perhaps.

If his knee feels funny on clay, then it makes sense to skip everything but Roland Garros. I was thinking it was more a matter of rest, which seemed excessive.

And yeah, Stuttgart seems a throwaway. I'd rather see him play Canada; a SF result there is more points than winning Stuttgart, plus if he's playing like he is now in North America, he could win one or both of those fast Masters.

Fed says he is better player now than in 2007
Ultimate Federer: “I’m better now than in 2007″

I asked Juan Martin Del Potro if he feels Roger Federer could be playing his finest tennis this year and the intelligent Argentine hardly objected to that notion.

The next day at the Miami Open press conference, Pete Bodo followed up on that story angle by asking Federer himself if it is possible that he actually is playing his best tennis now at age 35?

“I think I play different to when I was 24,” said the Swiss maestro. “I think my technique has changed from when I was 19. Is it the best I ever played? For me it’s hard to say yes to that question. Because the years when I lost three or four matches, five the following year, in those two years I won like 150 matches and lost eight or nine. It’s hard to feel better than in that time.”

Then Federer changed course. “But I feel like maybe on the offensive side overall, I think I’m doing definitely a few things better than I ever have. That’s what Ive always tried to explain to people… that I do feel that I have improved. The game has evolved and I had to adjust and change but overall I do believe I’m probably a better player than I was ten years ago. It doesnt always translate into results per se because other guys have come up and did extremely well like Novak, Rafa, Murray and all those guys.”

I don't think that is a definitive decision at this point. He's weighing & considering his options..I've read the same articles and the conclusion has not been made yet. As a fan I would be disappointed if he didn't play RG. I think he will do very well there....but he clearly has the grass as his focus...Does anyone out there think that Fed is doing the wrong idea here basically shutting down the entire clay court season? I'm wondering if Nadal will shut down the grass court season?

I don't think he's doing it wrong, the timeout injury last year and the subsequent results at the beginning of this year seems to have changed his way of thinking.

I think if he feels healthy and refreshed then he feels he can be competitive at any tournament, so he's making sure he's peaking for those tournaments that are the most important to him at this stage of his career. He did say the clay courts made his knee "feel funny" last year, so I think that's factoring into his decision just to play Roland Garros alone. Wimbledon seems to be the big prize in his crosshairs.

My interest in the clay court season has diminished without Fed...I do watch an occasional match but all that I seem to care about is the rankings outcome after these tournaments are held. I completely get it if your a Nadal fan during this stretch...

I hear ya Marty. Seems a vacuum without Fed playing - I felt like that after Wimbledon last year... but it seems compounded right now with Djokovic's nosedive in form. Murray's not exactly lighting any fires either. Roland Garros is something to look forward to.

he'll decide on May 10 if he plays RG or not but last year he skipped it and won nothing on grass......I don't think RG can decrease or increase his chances on grass

I think he'll play it.

Let's wildly speculate that Roger wins Wimbledon. Based on his form this year to date and his grass court legacy, it's not entering into the realms of fantasy... he'd then be looking at the USO as a third slam and probably kicking himself that he didn't even play RG to set himself up for a run at a Calendar Grand Slam.

:hunting:

Put the gun down for a minute. I'm not suggesting a Calendar Slam is on the cards and I don't think he wins Roland Garros... but he'd be kicking himself for not even entering... (in hindsight) IF he won Wimbledon.

I was sure he would play RG all along and I still think he will get a last minute WC in Rome.
