Very pleased for Steve Johnson.  What I watched of Monfils/Ferrer was entertaining, but Ferrer held the day.  I think he'll take Johnson, but I'd be happy either way.  PS:  Gulbis's woes continue.  So much for his recommitment to tennis.

^gulbis  is about as believable when he says that as when sly stallone says he "ain't never gunna do no noo rocky movie no more"..you just know that a new/noo rocky film will somehow be made even if stallone is 95yrs old.

Ferrer was the steadier of the two today.  Won all those important points, saved break points when needed.  Gael is just too wild with his shots.

I think Ferrer wins tomorrow.

At least Stallone might still have options.  Gulbis is running out of time to be a "contendah."

Ferrer won in 3, but it was a tight match.  I found myself pulling for Johnson.  Ferrer was just "that" much sturdier, and pulled off the break at 4-4 to serve for it and close it out.  Johnson was surprisingly good, though.

Yeah, I agree.  I was also pleasantly surprised by Johnson, a very good showing for him.   David was so happy to win today.  Congratulations to both guys.
