Can Federer's Shanghai conquerer do anything against Ferrer?

I don't see why he wouldn't be a threat.  R-V might be on a high after his results in Shanghai.  Tennis players are like that, hot for a little while.

I hope Thiem does well here at home.

Ferrer won it in 3 sets, R-V taking the 1st one 6:1.

Darn it Dominic, I really thought he could do some damage here.  Monfils and Isner also won.

For tomorrow we have:

Gulbis vs Isner

Tsonga vs Haas

Haider-Maurer vs Anderson

Dr Ivo vs Stakhovsky

Mathieu vs F3

 Yeah, everything you mumbled here above is unrelated, were happening in Stockholm and not in Vienna.

In Vienna today, Gulbis upset Isner. Ernie sunk to 110 ranking, this could ignite a comeback of some sort.

Yeah, I also read that Gulbis hit more aces than Isner.

The winners today were also:  Karlovic, Anderson, Tsonga (3 setter against Haas), and F3 ( :yahoo: )

Let's see who we have on schedule tomorrow:

two Spaniards facing each other:  Ferrer vs Garcia-Lopez

Vesely vs Anderson

Tsonga vs Rosol

Lorenzi vs Monfils

Stepanek vs F3

Janowicz vs Johnson

All round 2 for the guys.

Quite an upset Gulbis beating Isner, Gulbis is so unpredictable - for some reason he seems to excel when Isner is across the net - beat him in monte carlo last year also - might Gulbis actually be the one ATP player who actually likes playing Isner? :) Benjamin Becker told me earlier this year that nobody enjoys playing Isner or Karlovic --

That players do not enjoy playing Isner or Karlovic is a compliment to their skills, I guess. :)   I fear for my favourites when they play either one of them as well.  Both are nice guys off court though.

Gulbis is just that wired I'd assume.  He really needs to be up to facing a challenge and he can play really well.  He is not the most professional of tennis players otherwise he would have had more success, I always felt.

What happened to Tsonga?  Ferrer, Anderson, Monfils, F3 and Steve Johnson winners today.

After taking out Isner, Gulbis will have a pleasure of facing Dr. Ivo next

Johnson will take on Anderson

Ferrer vs F3 ( :yahoo:  )

Rosol vs Monfils

let's see if Gulbis is on fire for a couple more matches, I'll also take Anderson, F3, and Gael tomorrow in the quarter finals.

I guess Tsonga was exhausted by jet lag

Gulbis is in a zone against the big servers, it seems.  Ferrer beat F3 easily.  How about Steve Johnson, that is a great win for him today. Gael needed 3 sets to beat Rosol.

Gulbis has a nice opportunity to make the final, should be a slight favourite against Johnson.   Boy Ferrer vs Monfils could be an entertaining affair.

Gulbis is down a set and a break, don't know if he can mount a comeback in this one.  Too many UFEs from his racquet.

Ha...just when I give up, Gulbis breaks back and they are now even in set #2.  That's the match on my TV.  The last 3 times Gulbis tried to lob Johnson, the attempts were really poor and Steve took care of them each time.

Johnson will develop further I think, because he started the pro-tour only after finishing college.

Once he gets more confidence, I think he could settle into the top 30 for some time.

All in all is a good week for the American tennis, with both Johnson and Sock making finals at the same time.
