The Tournament:
Since its inaugural edition in 1993, the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships has consistently showcased the world's best players in competition and also in spectacular locations around the global city. In 2005, two ATP World Tour champions, Andre Agassi and Roger Federer, scaled the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah for a friendly practice session atop the helipad at the iconic hotel. The tournament has frequently been named the ATP World Tour 500 Tournament of the Year in the ATP World Tour Awards presented by Moët & Chandon. In 2017, the tournament will be held 27 February - 4 March. Src: ATP
The Players:
Dubai is a tournament Andy Murray has yet to add to his resume of tournament wins and the World Number 1 will face stern opposition from revitalised Australian Open and 18 major winner Roger Federer. Federer has won the Dubai tournament on 7 previous occasions. Defending champion Stan Wawrinka returns to campaign for a second successive title.
About Dubai
Dubai is a city in the United Arab Emirates known for luxury shopping, ultramodern architecture and a lively nightlife scene. Burj Khalifa, an 830m-tall tower, dominates the skyscraper-filled skyline.
At its foot lies Dubai Fountain, with jets and lights choreographed to music. On man-made islands just offshore is Atlantis, the Palm, a resort with water and marine-animal parks.
