Rafa went for a "lucky ace" there on 2nd serve - but it was a double fault, with Rosol all over him! :snigger

Now that's wrong! You can't stalk about a bit and then challenge... :nono

6-2 first set.

Not exactly a smackdown, because all Rafa needs to do is get the ball in and Rosol blazes winners - or runners-up. Mainly there's no rhythm at all in the match.

As for the ace count, Rafa has only one...the lucky bass turd! :lolz:

I can't help but watch this match and wonder if my pal Cali is watching. Why is that? Because Rosol is playing how he likes 'em to play - swash, bash, ping! About a million winners and just as many - or more - errors. The guy draws his racket back, closes his eyes, and it's either shi...ugar or champagne.

The point being, he may outweigh Rafa by about 3 times as many winners, but that's not the important stat: 6-2, 3-2 is the only stat that measures things accurately so far...

Big hitting by Rosol to break serve. Rafa's forehand still thinks it's Christmas... :nono

Very patchy match, but given it's the first match of the season, to be expected.

5-5.

Rosol's missus is cute - until she chews her gum with her gob open... :wow:

Rafa's making heavy weather of this, up 6-3 in the breaker, now it's 6-6. In fairness to Rosol, he's raised his game too and played impeccably...

Good win for Rafa, very patchy match, he played well though and his backhand held up under a lot of heavy hitting. He looks sharp but not in full flight, which is normal. But it was an encouraging start to the season.

6-2, 7-6. Here endeth my monologue! :p

Nice win for nadal !

Exactly. The win is more important than how he played. No point going to Doha just to play the doubles. Rosol is too hit and miss to give a guy any rhythm, and Rafa was chunking his forehand when he had the most easy put aways - at least four of them - but he got stuck in when he was broke for 5-4 and he held firm to shut Rosol out in the breaker, 9-7.

Nice win, indeed! :)

Rafa's unbeaten so far in 2014 - and we're still in 2013.

Good! :p

Timezones are cool that way. For many of us here our favourite players have already played matches in 2014 and we're still in 2013. Crazy.

No, not yet. It is only 11am on 1/1/2014 here in New Zealand right now and we are where years, decades, centuries and millenniums start, so there are no 2014 matches yet. Plus it is raining cats and dogs here in Auckland so I guess Brisbane is where the first matches of the year will be but only in couple of hours.

Happy New Year everyone and all the best to you in 2014 (I am not sure I wish the same to your favourite players though ;)).
