Maybe, who knows. And just to be clear, I have no issue with homosexuality. But I used the phrase "sordid proclivities" solely in reference for his (alleged) preference for teenage boys as young as 14 (according to the Wikipedia page that you quoted). I'm a pretty liberal guy and accept all kinds of sexual preferences, but that's pushing it.
But I can also buy the possibility that he was framed due to homophobia. Again, who knows.
Regardless, he was a great player and rather underrated. If we look at greatness solely contexually--that is, relative to the context he played in--he is up there with the other GOAT candidates.
