Here's an article explaining why, and as we all know that Wimbo follow their own system, so it means that Novak is installed as official favourite to take the crown...

I'm surprised they didn't seed Rafa lower after tanking in Halle.

I think too much is being made of Rafa tanking Halle. I mean, it was...Halle - hardly a major event and really only used as a warm-up to Wimbledon, from what I gather.

No difference between 1 and 2 except bragging rights. But if you drop ,say, the number 4 in the world to 5 , that is a serious blow.

2. Rafael Nadal: 12,543.75 (inc. 43.75)
3. Andy Murray: 7,990 (inc 3,150)
4. Roger Federer: 6,740 (inc 1795)
5. Stan Wawrinka: 5,647.5 (inc 167.5)
6. Tomas Berdych 5,088.75 (inc 408.75)
7. David Ferrer: 4,820 (inc 630)
8. Milos Raonic 3,323.75 (inc 78.75)

The system has been explained EVERY year since I am on board, which is 2009, so there are no news basically for the regular posters. Stan was going to be dropped, because both Roger and Andy get a lot more bonus points than he does.
As far as Nole being first instead of Rafa, well, that was known too, as Nole gets significant bonus points, being in finals last year, versus Nadal who was eliminated in R1 last year and R2 2 years ago.
But as murat said, being 1 or 2 seed, makes no difference whatsoever.

Exactly! And if he does, I'd like him to face the #7 seed, followed by the #4, followed by whoever...

At this point, I think Nadal will be blessed just to get out the first round. He won only 5 games against a journeyman with dreds that a couple years ago was representing Jamaica. It's really shocking how the guy goes from making 5 finals in 5 tries to winning 1 match on grass in 2 years.

Yeah, it was a joke, Dude, based on all of the tanking talk lately.

But will they really do it? So far as I've known, they've stuck with the ATP rankings of late; precisely! I had no problem in the old days when Spanish clay courters in the top 10 were dropped due to their incompetence on grass, but they've overworked the service so much, that isn't as much an issue! The last controversy on the ladies' side was in '85 when Chris Evert came into the tourney with an AO and FO win; ended up making both CE and Martina co #1's! Evert wasn't happy, but she was still on top of the draw and made the final against Navratilova losing in 3 sets!

They just did. Read the article Kieran linked to in the OP.

I doubt it.

The bookies pick Nole as the most likely winner and not by a slim margin. Of course, that means nothing, because he has been picked quite a few times before as the most likely winner in slams, and he ended up empty handed...

The next likely winner according to them is Murray, then Nadal and then Roger, but there is just a very slim margin in Nadal's favor, many betting houses having them dead even in chances.

As herios points out this discussion comes up every single year. It really shouldn't be news to anybody that follows tennis closely. Sometimes the changes are more obvious than previous years. It just turns out that this year is one of those years.

MEN

The seeds are the top 32 players on the ATP Entry System Position (ESP), BUT then rearranged on a surface-based system. Since 2002 a seeding committee has not been required for the Gentlemen’s Singles following an agreement made with the ATP. The seeding order is determined using an objective and transparent system to reflect more accurately an individual player’s grass court achievements: The formula is:

· Take ESP points at 17 June 2013
· Add 100% points earned for all grass court tournaments in the past 12 months
· Add 75% points earned for the best grass court tournament in the 12 months before that.

LADIES

The seeding order follows the WTA ranking list, except where in the opinion of the committee, a change is necessary to produce a balanced draw. There are no changes this year.

All good points...I was referring to Nole being placed as the #1 seed.

I will go on record as saying I think Murray does not has a shot to repeat.

The maths are there, Lux, that's how they do their seeding. Nole will be #1.

You think they'll change it this year?

Why?
