Very beautiful. And it's shocking how poignant it still is today. You'll be too young to remember, and you're from Oz, I think, but, at that time, and in the US, for a southern man to sing this song was really striking. And since you put it up, I won't have to.
Good on you Moxie, I think you'll find that the songwriter Scott "Mac" Davis also recorded this, First choice was Sammy Davis Jnr but he apparently turned it down, only to wax it after Elvis rendition. Did you hear the tracks from the Elvis and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra album that came out last year? Very nice rendition on "American trilogy" and "Bridge Over Troubled Waters".

Your knowledge and offerings are so challenging. I can't keep up! I'll post some videos of my list, and get to my #1, too.

I think I've posted this before. It's a creepy video, but the music is great.

I'm sorry this comes in two parts, but it's worth it:

You know something, Moxie after vewing your list, I should have put an instrumental in my list just to mix it up, like this one. Have a listen to this please, it's good -

Kind of an odd mash-up. Here's an instrumental that didn't make my cut, but almost did:

Thanks for listening. Marvin was in the UK instrumental band 'The Shadows' but his 1970 solo record may not have received any airplay in the US. Another gem is 'Classical Gas' by Mason Williams, you like that one?

I do remember "Classical Gas." Pleasurable, but both a bit wobbly in terms of musical POV. That's my opinion.
