Considering his excessive scheduling and constant injuries, I can not see this man winning another major in his career.

Me either to be honest. He hasn't even won a masters 1000 so I'm inclined to believe a slam is therefore definitely out of the question. Especially with all the recurring wrist problems. With his left wrist now flaring up again it means the DTL BH which returned briefly in the Asian swing when his wrist was ok for once will now be gone again without that shot it really limits him A LOT against the likes of Djokovic and Nadal in particular as he can only use BH slice which they'll eat up or CC BH. I hope he heals up ok as he won't be going deep in tournaments with a limited arsenal of shots as a result of a dodgy left wrist.

Not to be his psychologist, but Juan Martin has spoken about being hampered by worries about his wrist (the right.) He certainly has not always swung as freely or powerfully as what he was doing in 2009. It's not just getting the wrists in good order, imo. It's getting him to trust them. If he can't, I wonder if he'll still find a way to be the dangerous player we saw in 2009.

Yeah, he is also inconsistent. Look at what happened last year at Indian Wells. He defeated Djokovic and Murray to get to the final and put up a real fight against Nadal. Less than a week later he plays Miami and loses in the first round. What distinguishes him from the big 4 is rigid consistency - yes, he did well at IW and demonstrated his game can match it with the top guys when on-song, but to lose in the opening round in Miami shows that he is very unpredictable. He was too excessive with his scheduling leading up the FO and ended up withdrawing. He played well at Wimbledon and through the North American swing, but somehow loss to Hewitt at the USO. And fast forward to '14, he won the title at Sydney by dismantling Tomic and then suffered a shock exit at the AO. You really do not know with this guy.

I think Moxie is spot on, though. Since his return, he has played discernibly more conservative tennis than in '09. He is still capable of hitting with a lot of power, but it is the lack of confidence in his wrists that is causing it.

Also, as much as I like the guy, he is just not fit enough...He moves like a sloth on prozac in between points to conserve every bit of energy, and still he ends up being the one out of legs at the end of long matches when he plays against top competition.

I don't mind him moving slowly, but running out of gas is not on. Fitness can be improved. And should be, if you're gunning for the top slots.

I don't understand him though. He plays tournaments right before slams...so assuming he goes deep in those, he needs to play 3 weeks of solid tennis to win a slam. That is just not going to happen. He is not even fit enough for a solid two weeks...I hope you are right and he can improve his fitness.

The way he mopes around between points does my head in and he's also one of the slowest out there between points. This is what he needs to improve..

Unfortunately, l'Equipe of today confirms his left wrist wound, don't know if he needs a surgery like the other one in 2010, hope not
Poor Juan, his body is as fragile as a crystal glass. Wish him a fast recovery

It's a pity for del Po, the Big Guy can't catch a break. I know, he's inconsistent and he hasn't bashed through again, but I'd hate for him to be out long term with the wrist again. The guy was built for greatness, not a career jeopardised by injury...

Agree with you, Juan deserves much better than another injury pause, hope it's not too serious, time will tell

Delpo's career may have been krajiceked by his left wrist. In fact, he may be the RK of this generation. There are a lot of similarities, actually. Both are very big guys, completely unintimidated and unafraid of the top players, and capable of big upsets. (RK was actually a bit of a nemisis to Pete, going 5-2 against him when Pete was #1, and beating him the lone time they met at Wimbledon)

JMDP and RK each bagged 1 major, but with the talent and mental fortitude for more if not for injuries.

Cheers

I had a look at Rotterdam's entry list, Juan is still in so I guess he'll play next week ? Or maybe will he pull out at the last moment ? Stan is officially out so Krajicek must be anxious to know Juan's decision. the line up could be less interesting than scheduled if both Stan and Juan are out
keep my fingers crossed

That's good news although part of me reckons he's not fully healed and simply trying to keep his ranking, which could prove costly if true.

he can't be that silly..given his problems in 2010.

he has seen his specialist so he has to be listening to whatever he said, he must have told him its ok to play.
