For Italy, it is up to Musetti tomorrow because if he wins his match, Sinner will close it for Italy for sure.

It will be more than likely be De Minaur vs. Musetti and Popyrin vs. Sinner in the singles match
Why not Sonego for the singles?

Remember Italy do have a good doubles player in Bolelli, who was down to play in the doubles with Sonego before they changed to Jannik
I am not confident with Musetti at all, he isnt a good 'big time player' and is a Head Case at times

I think because the Italian DC coach believes Musetti has a higher chance of winning a singles match than Sonego.

Either way, De Minaur is 4-0 against Musetti and Sonego combined so he will get the 1st singles match. Also, the H2H between De Minaur/Sinner is not pretty for one guy.

Generally, I think Mussetti has more upside than Sonego, but Mussetti is far from trending, plus, Margaret says Mussetti might have a leg issue? Sonego will certainly be feeling confidence today, after that dramatic win over the Serbian team. Also, as Margaret likewise points out: Australia have a real doubles team. Even though Serbia had Novak, he and Kecmanovic aren't a "real" doubles team.

Loss today snaps Novak's 21-match win streak in DC, dating back to 2011, when he retired against Del Potro in the semis. (Old Format.)

It has to be each country's #1 vs the other's #1. So D-Minor is #1 for Aus as he is higher ranked and he would play Jannik

Playing DC for your country quite frankly I can toss H2H counts out the window
I have seen too many time in DC when a player has a H2H count against a player in competition and that goes out the window in DC ties
In saying I would like to see Italy win the singles ties as Australia have a very experience and GS title holders in Ebden and Purcell. Wimbledon 2022

That's not a hard-and-fast rule, and a poor calculation. De Minaur has an 0-5 h2h v. Sinner. Wouldn't Australia be better to trust De Minaur to win his singles over either of the Lorenzos, then bet on their doubles team?

Told you guys that Serbia has nothing to offer if it comes to doubles. Their hope was to win all ties through singles and Novak lost the crucial match. Even if Serbia reached the final and say Kecmanovic lost his match and Novak won his, there is no way they would have beaten Ebden/Purcell.

So tomorrow we have something like Sinner-De Minaur and I guess Popyrin-Sonego??

If it is either Poyrin-Sonego or Popyrin-Musetti, then that might determine the champion.

De Minaur/Sinner is one way traffic

And doubles is huge advantage for the Australian team.

My commentators on the match say Italy must play Sonego for the singles
We shall see, I still havent got much faith in Musetti, he had a leg issues in his match today, and to me isnt a good high match player

Some interesting facts regarding about Sinner's amazing level of play:

Before October, Sinner was 1-4 against Djokovic, Alcaraz and Medvedev

Since the start of October, Sinner is 6-1 against Djokovic, Alcaraz and Medvedev

Who would have thought that Sinner will have a record of 7-5 against the Top 3 players in the world in 2023?!

vs. Djokovic 2-2
vs. Alcaraz 2-1
vs. Medvedev 3-2

By this thinking, it was a coin flip, Serbia or Italy, and Sinner pulled it off, v. Novak. Because neither has what you'd call a doubles team, or doubles specialists. Each team had one great singles player, and Italy managed keeping the ball away from Novak a lot of the time. The same will not work against a great doubles team. Sinner and Sonego have made a good team this week. If it comes down to them, it will be interesting.

Italy has a reasonable chance. At this point Popyrin seems better in singles than Sonego, but it is Davis Cup and anything can happen. Last week Sonego was trashed by Fognini in some ATP tournament (and now Fognini is in a final of a challenger, he is trending well but he is not in a team this year). Due to Musetti failure to win today plus his leg concern I guess it has to be Sonego tomorrow for Italy and he just has to win. Or will they risk with Musetti? Musetti certainly has a bigger chance to win if he is feeling okay, but it doesn't look like the way he lost last 2 sets today.
