^Its also a good stat for someone like Boris Becker, who is not well represented by his mere 12 weeks at #1. He has 476 weeks in the top 5 - more than Agassi (443), Edberg (434), Murray (429), Borg (428), McEnroe (422), Wilander (320) and Hewitt (184) - all of whom have more weeks at #1.
I was confused for a moment, as Becker wasn't on your list, but I see your point. Still, Becker won't get lost in the ether. Ferrer will.

Remember that the list only includes players who were top 5 during the time that the Big Four were all top 4.

But yeah, Becker was a much greater player than Ferrer. I just mentioned him because he's a player whose greatness is better represented by his weeks in the top 5 than by weeks at #1.

Weeks at #1 aren't everything. Maybe we'll explore top 5/10 on another thread. On that point, Rafa is about to surpass Roger in consecutive weeks in the top 10, (in 3 or 4 weeks,) which would leave him only behind Connors.

As much as people talked/fawned over Becker, he was without a doubt the streakiest of players; esp. when getting to #1! He needed to be very passionate as he was in those Wimbledon finals, have a fast court otherwise, or a vendetta against his opponent (Lendl) to win it seemed to me! He played mind games against his closest rival Edberg so I had little to no respect for his play or game! He hung around for quite a while, but he was done quite early on IMO; having just a handful of good wins in tourneys for the most part after '91; though making one last Wimbledon Final against Sampras in '95! :nono:  :banghead: :cuckoo:   :ptennis:

I aha e always rooted for Federer, but have always aspired to be like David Ferrer when I play tennis. It's very sad that he was never able to win the big one. He might have done it if his best surface wasn't clay. Sometimes there are just things that can't be accomplished.

He also, ah, won the Australian Open in 1996. Sure, he dropped a notch after 1991 but was still an elite player for another half decade, finishing in the top 5 most years.
