RE: Citi Open (Women)

Go Belinda! Her 2nd WTA title will be won very soon, I'm sure...

Also, thanks for making these tournament threads. I always found it hard to keep up with who was playing where before I joined this forum!

Nice to see Taylor Townsend's name as a wc for the Citi Open. I was starting to wonder where she disappeared to.

I hadn't heard of her before - just Google searched her, only 19 years old! Haven't seen her being classed as a "rising star" at all though. Perhaps just having a one-off fantastic match?

Either way, it's a shame that Heather has gone out :(

tired of watching Townsend imploding...this girl needs help and a real coach. She doesnt need the Young family as her coaches,if she cant afford a coach . ..start with doubles earn a bit of money to pay a good coach. She is still young enough to adjust from singles to doubles she has a lot of potential to be stuck at first round exit

I agree. While I was glad she accepted a WC for this tournament, it's a little disheartening to see her flaming out of these tournaments against winnable opponents. Why not play singles and doubles? Since she's not getting to the business end of a tournament, she should have plenty of gas to play both events and that would guarantee her some money as you say and experience of playing matches where she can work on her serve, return and volley.

I find it hard to believe the USTA wouldn't take her under their wing and assign her a mentor she can work with until she finds her game. What exactly is Katrina Adams role in her new position?

she has to swallow her pride and ask Katrina Adams for help with a coach and personal trainer...enter the small events in doubles and singles.I noticed yesterday that she was tired after second set,she needs to work on her fitness and she seems to carrying a lot of weight.
I am not shaming her but I believe if she gets her body in order she will be great. That serve and volley is not easy for more than an hour you have to be in peak physical shape..
I hope she gets it together because her game is very good and a joy to watch..plus she has a sunny personality.

If i saw the score right, Chiroco was leading 5-3, got broken for 5-5 and it was tied 3-all in the TB before she won the last four points. Cornet really let that one get away.

Actually it's the opposite. She really should have put Cornet away in straights. She was up a break in the 2nd set and then proceeded to lose 3 straight games. She did the same thing the 3rd set. She was up a break two different times and served for it at 5-4 until she got to the TB and finally closed it out.

Ah, I see now. I came in at the end and saw here give up a 5-3 lead in the third.

Taylor and her partner Marand win their 1R doub match.
