As a Rafa fan, I should be scared of JMDP playing this well, but I'm very happy for him. Well done. Three straight wins in DC.

It's really good to see DP playing this well again. I really like him. He has such a quiet gentle spirit for someone w/ such a big game.

Yes, and I know what you mean, tented, but it's hard not to pull for the guy, given his lovely demeanor and what he's been through. (Of course, all these hearts and flowers go out the window, for me, next time he plays Rafa. :laydownlaughing)

Guess I should've checked but wasn't thinking the final would be played so early. Glad Del Potro won anyway. Good to see him back playing so well. Was pretty gutted for Haas though yesterday and the damn rain break but what can you do.

Congrats to Delpo on his 15th! Very nice speeches by both.

Isner played dumb tennis through 2nd and 3rd set. He needed to slow down his game and be more patient but he was still in attacking mode that was causing a lot of errors. Delpo too was attacking but when you have two attacking players going at each other, the more consistent one is bound to come on top. And while isner changed his shirt, he did no change his gameplan. Delpo is clearly overall the better player regardless but isn't always for the lesser ranked players to take their game to the next level?

I find him quite adorable. He's like this big teddy bear. And he's got a great game too. It's very nice to have a player like him.

Nah.. We ..Rafa fans aren't afraid of anything but Team Uncle Toni\Rafa not paying attention to detail such as how mentality and physically prepared Rafa is for every opponent. Rafa just needs to stay fresh so he can be the aggressor, attack the ball and have the confidence to finish every point. We have No Fear because we just play the ball and try to break our opponents down physically\mentality.:clap

The rain delay was unfortunate for Haas, because I think he would have run away with the first, but he let his head get away from him in the TB. I hope he can pull himself back together and make it a match, though I agree the winner will want to get off the court and be in good shape for the final tomorrow.

Agreed.. Tommy was playing with a ton of confidence and the rain definitely cool is game .. Too bad but its part of the game.. I hope that Tommy continues to play well throughout the entire US Open Series.. I am a huge fan of his technically fundamentally sound strokes especially the one handed bh which I agree with Justin Gim. the best in the game.

It's a bit controversial to call Tommy's one-hander the best in the game, with Federer still in it, but it does seem the sturdier, at this point in time. Roger is vulnerable with it. (Everyone attacks it.) Wawrinka has a nice one, and so does Kohlscreiber, and Lopez, but they're not effective with it at the level of Haas and Federer.

Tommy let himself get kerfuffled after the rain delay. Still an achilles heel for him, getting his head out of it. It's a bummer that the match didn't play out without weather issues. It should have been a cracker. Anyway, I'm glad JMDP won. It was right of the organizers to get that match over with last night. If the result of the final had come because either JMDP or TH was gassed, that would have been wrong. The better player won.

Talking of beautiful one handed bh, why is Gasquet's name
missing?

Don't forget Gasquet! :snigger :snigger   :p :p His backhand can be devastating to some opponents! He wore out Murray on clay a while back!

I like Gasquet, good mention, and he does seem to be putting some work into it this year, but key phrase might be "a while back." We keep waiting for 'fulfilled promise.'

I hope that his first master title will happen soon. He is the only one in the top 8 without one, and if Tsngoa/Berdych/Ferrer could do it, so is JM, the question is only when?

The US Open title trumps anything Berd/Ferru or Jo Willie have achieved or likely to achieve. I think JMDP will win at least another slam, probably more.
