Carlos isn’t used to having someone returning his crushing shots. It’s cooled off and Novak is in his service games.

This was a crazy ride. Carlos is that shape shifting guy from T2 judgment day and Novak is the old model. Today the old model won, but I really feel Alcaraz already has an edge in this matchup.

Congrats to both for leaving it all on the court. Spectacular final.

I felt djoker needed this one. He was by far the better player throughout tournament and had lost wimbledon final in a court he thought had had edge.

When these two are in form, it’s simply as good as it gets. There will be some ups and downs but it’s not possible for both to maintain the intensity and concentration every point. At times one will produce eye popping consistent tennis but they inevitably have a brief dip, it’s just natural.

Djoker didn’t start serving that well and was a bit off at the start, carlos also had a few mediocre games but for most of match, was incredible.

Alcaraz shot making is almost expected so doesn’t really surprise me. What i think makes him more special is his ability to use so many options and his defense. He can slice to hit off speeds, he can deceptively use drop shots from either side when he sees players playing deep, he can come to net and volley very well, surprise with sneak S&Ving…. Against novak he snuck into net at some critical points. He used the serve out wide on ad court to cripple novak during other critical points, novak can’t do much with it. He then takes away so many winners with his speed and pulled off two classic novak on the run backhands… copying novak’s best shot. He creates complex equations that make it difficult for others to solve.

Novak had become a similar player by using his slice, drop shots, sneak attacks at net and he also steals winners. Carlos is 16 years younger though and already doing it all…

This match up is so amazing as both are very complete and have a lot of options. I actually feel carlos has a slight edge now… novak can return slightly better and takes the ball slightly earlier but carlos has more feel and more power. It’s about guts and nerves with slight edge to carlos but both give each other puzzles to solve which only they can produce and solve.

Summary of the match:

1) Djokovic is completely exhausted, looks like he is going to die and needs an ambulance
2) His team prepare him his usual magical drink
3) He takes the usual long bathroom break
4) Then he magically becomes Superman and even by the end of the match he looks like he could still play for another 10 hours

Et voila, the usual Djokovic series of events! NID!

He learns from the best. Rafa kept saying he was hobbled at AO, couldn’t walk.. is down 2 sets to 0 to medvedev.. wins in 5. At roland when asked if he had a chance against novak, he said it may be his last match and that he didn’t want to talk about his physical issues but that he is just trying to survive… moves and runs like a rabbit and wins fo…

What’s he doing to miraculously do what he does with such grave physicsl issues. He said he was getting ‘shots’, what’s in those shots? :)

I think Alcaraz has a very good chance of being upset early at the USO! He worked too hard this wk.; allowing everyone to take him to the limit! :fearful-face:
Hopefully not we need rematch between the Goatovic and Carlos in NY.

Djokovic vs. Carlos 2023 part 4!

He’s 20 years old. This was like playing a major and winning his matches in 3 straight. In the final he played at a level he only hit sporadically all week. He should be rested and in good form by the time the USOpen kicks off.

Could you please supply the link where Rafa said he was hobbled at the AO and couldnt walk? or supply a press conference link when he said he felt hobbled? as I never heard him complaining at all that he felt "hobbled' when he was down 2 sets to love in the final when he was playing Meddy or at all during the tournament? as I watched every match Rafa played at the AO?

If my memory is correct didnt Novak address the press this year and say he was dealing with a lot of physical issues but didnt want to elaborate?
I believe Kieran actually posted a link where Novak said he was dealing with a lot of physical issues and didnt want to elaborate, I can always ask him when he comes on to re- post the link
