I think the announcer said it could be a flare up w/ her back. It can be a consequence of playing so much. 3 weeks in a row on HC is difficult for a young person, Serena (while fit) is no spring chix anymore.

That was a strange match. None of the players played a good game. Both filled with errors and the one with the biggest serve won. Congrats to Serena but it was an ugly win - but a win. I'd say a disappointing performance from both. It was an ugly match.

Caroline was consistent in the first set, and Serena overpowering in the second, and then erratic play from both in the third.

Just read on the WTA website,by virtue of her s/final win over Woznicaki,Serena has clinched US Open Series Title,and will go for a record $4 million payout at the USO.

Ana looks much better than Maria this evening, but Maria is always dangerous. I agree with you, Kiu…Ana has to look to win it in this set. If Maria gets her teeth back in the match, she is fierce. And she's been pulling off this comeback act all summer.

I don't know when she took on the new coach, but they just said Ana has the most wins on tour this year. (46) She's playing great tonight. If she wins tonight, and plays this well tomorrow, and Serena doesn't play better than she did today, Serena could be in trouble.
