Sloane is through to the second round, she won today but it took 3 sets.
Sloane will get to play Masha next.
:)

This is what I have been alluding in regards to Sloane. This is an opponent that she should've beaten in 2 straight easy sets. I think Pova is going to drive the bus straight over Sloane. Sloane will be a deer in headlights because Pova is going to try to send a message since she has hired Jimbo. I don't think Pova can fire someone like Jmbo, he will fire himself.. that is how he rolls..

Sloane has trouble w/ players like Martic. That's why I said it was a tasty match. I wasn't certain she would face Maria. But good of her to get out of the first round. But as Tossip says, I expect Sloane to be going home tomorrow.
if Sloane beats pova.. Tossip and I will write about the 100 things we admire most about Sloane.. Deal:snigger

You can't make a deal for Tossip. He has to do that for himself, but I'm extremely intrigued by this bet (even though I know nothing will come of it because Masha isn't losing, right?).

Its up to Tossip.. whom I don't think is worried about covering that bet

Both Williams Sisters are in action this week :p

Venus, please get past round one!!

Go for the win, Serena, and tidy up that serve. You need a title here to complete your resume!!

Venus just doesn't look like she has the movement or quick feets.. If she cant win with cheap points from her serve, she will continue to struggle.. :(

Well she can depend on her opponents giving it away like this girl! OMG, 3 love lead, now she can't keep the ball in play long enough for Venus to miss! lol! Double faults on both sides of the net! What an ugly match, but we're talking about Venus' game; woof!

Venus is starting to get lathered up and has some sweat to loosen up.. good stuff by Venus

This Venus match is very ugly. I think I've seen one very nice constructed point that didn't end in an UE, mind you they've played 8 games already.
but the Win is so pretty:snigger

Well she pulled it together at the end of the 1st set. It was really nice to see some consistency in the 2nd set as well as some aggression as she came to net and kept her opponent off balance. Overall, a nice win.

Eugenie Bouchard has had some another fine start to this tournament, but lo and behold who lurks in the wings in round 2? Serena Williams, another big challenge for our young Canadian. Former number one Canadian, and another real super lady, Alexsandra Wozniak, just announced today she will be returning to action at New Haven. Alex who I have had the pleasure of interviewing( she is just a real sweetie) was injured in the Bell Challenge in Quebec City in September and re-injured her shoulder in March in Miami. She was around 42nd in the rankings when she sustained the injury, so she will have to slowly climb back up the rankings. She is the only Canadian to win a WTA title in Stanford, at the Bank West Classic.

The second set was much more straight forward, Venus didn't commit any more double faults, broke Jana 3 times, didn't face a break point and only lost one point on her second serve.
Awesome stats, right?
If you were a Venus fan, that second set was very pretty!

Petko is behind a break to Daniela, Petko had 2 break chances but didn't convert, Daniela converted her only chance and is now up 5-2

Vania ahead an early break in the second set but facing a break point herself. She is up 2-0 against Vika and trying to consolidate.

Petko takes the second set 6-4. She should have her rhythm by now. Come on, Andrea!!

Vania breaks back and we're in a breaker. Vika looks terrible. No way she should be struggling this much wi/ Vania. King has no kill shot that can hurt Vika. Finally Vika wins the breaker 8-6

I can't believe it went to a tiebreak. From what I saw of the first set, Vika was in complete control. King was totally ineffective.
