I actually would be surprised to see Thiem reaching senis in Shanghai.
There's no thread created yet for the Shanghai masters but Federer has a tough draw.
"Two-time Shanghai Masters champion Roger Federer could meet Marin Cilic in the second round of the tournament after the draw was announced.
Federer returns to ATP action after playing at the Laver Cup last month and his first opponent in China will be the winner of Cilic vs Albert Ramos-Vinolas.
Cilic has struggled for form in 2019 and slipped down the rankings but has the game to cause problems, especially on a hard court.
Should Federer get through to the third round, a clash with 13th seed David Goffin is possible before a meeting with either Alexander Zverev or Borna Coric in the quarters.
Defending champion Novak Djokovic starts his campaign against the winner of #NextGenATP stars Denis Shapovalov and Frances Tiafoe.
Djokovic is currently in action at the Japan Open, where he is through to Sunday’s final.
Should the world No 1 reach the quarter-finals in Shanghai, he could face sixth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas before a semi-final with in-form Russian Daniil Medvedev.
Medvedev has won 24 of his last 27 matches, made five consecutive finals and beat Djokovic at Cincinnati Masters."
