Second seed Sasha Zverev upset today by Jaziri

I'm so disappointed to see Grigor and Sasha are gone so soon; but I guess why should any of us be surprised! It would be surprising for them to do well like Dimitrov taking the YEC last year! Something like that happens so infrequently I've about given up on the "next gen" until the BIG 3 leave the stage! So that means these guys will continue to underachieve and just make me sick to my stomach for some reason to see this much talent in the era which is going to waste up to now! Never has it ever been like this in the Pro ranks to allow 3 players to own it for so long! Borg, McEnroe, and even Connors' reign was nothing like this; usually done by the mid to late 20's with the exception of Connors' 82-83! He wasn't winning much after that, but he still competed better! Throw Agassi in there I guess! :nono:

But they did not lose to the Big 3.
They lost to Lajovic and Jaziri

I saw the last set + of the match. Zverev broke his racquet on the MP that he lost, which was on his serve. I know that lots here accuse him of bratty, arrogant behavior, and though I often support him, he did come off poorly in that moment. He had 17 BP opportunities with only 2, I think, converted. Jaziri had only 2 BP chances and converted both, one on a DF by Zverev. He was frustrated because it was a match he could have won, but didn't. Good on Jaziri for taking his chance.

Sock is having a crap year.
It's actually surprising that he's still ranked 17. He's 6-16 this year. I guess that reflects poorly on the rest of the field.

Results Round Up

2nd Round:

4-Fabio Fognini (ITA) beat Andrey Rublev (RUS) 6-4 6-3
Marton Fucsovics (HUN) beat 8-Marco Cecchinato (ITA) 6-4 6-2
Nikoloz Basilashvili (GEO) beat Fernando Verdasco (ESP) 7-6(3) 6-4
Malek Jaziri (TUN) beat 2-Alexander Zverev (GER) 7-6(4) 2-6 6-4

Zverev shouldn't be losing to Jaziri. Jaziri's almost old enough to be his father.

I'm kind of stuck on why he's managed to retain his ranking without picking through all his points.

Jack Sock's ranking is held up by his 1000 points won in Paris master.
Subtract those points and he drops out of the top 60.

So he's likely to make a precipitase fall in the next few weeks?

Depends what he will manage to defend in the last event of the season.
Very unlikely to see him win a master in his current form.
