Qualifer Hontama who has made her first WTA tour q/final in this tournament ,absorbs pace well and also keeps her UFE low,she will not defeat Murgurza in their match, interested to see how far she goes after this tournament.
Muguruza wins 63 62

This is the first time Ons Jabeur has defeated Svitolina,Elina did have a H2H 3-0 before this q/final.Elina did have her right thigh heavily bandaged, though the variety Ons has in her game, won through.
Jabeur d Svitolina 64 62.

Belinda Bencic forced to retire in her match against Rybakina.Bencic was in tears as the physio looked at her right knee.

KSate and Margaret. Maybe a conversation that Kelli can answer..I'm curious..how did Chicago get two tournaments about a month apart. Previously to the Laver cup a few years ago, Chicago hasn't had professional tennis in about 20 plus years. I recalled running into Brad Gilbert at the University of Illinois campus when he had dark curly hair before a ATP tournament at the Pavilion. What changed in Chicago that I am not aware of? I would think that Kamau Murray would have been playing a major role since he is a fellow Chicagoan like myself.

Kamau is definitely behind the Chi town resurgence. This is the 3rd tourney there this year.

Bad luck for Marketa Vondrousova has to withdraw from today's s/final against Garbine Muguruza due to GI illness.Garbine gets a walkover to the final.
Ons Jabeur - Elena Rybakina to start at 1pm.

I think this new tournament is cursed!....in the second s/final,

Ons Jabeur wins by retirement over Elina Rybakina 64 32........Elena retired also from a GI illness.

It will be interesting to see if the WTA500 tournament will be scheduled in 2022,as the Asian swing did get cancelled.
Indian Wells will go back to March in 2022,providing the pandemic settles down in the area.

Indian wells most likely NEXT March but I seriously doubt the Asian tour will continue until the end of the pandemic..

Beijing Winter Olympics are scheduled for February 2022,with strict protocols, anyone not fully vaccinated will have to quarantine for 21 days on arrival.I know the WTA are hopeful to have the Asian swing in 2022.So I guess we will have to wait and see.

So unfortunately and unfair to the fans when there are walkovers. Typically.no refunds..
