This is why I was saying the draw made sense. Caruana simply is not great at faster time controls. Some players simply need more time than others. I thought before the match that it would decide things. Hell I even heard today that Caruana thought awhile about whether or not to accept the draw offer in game 12. And his thinking had to do about the rapid TB

I totally understand. I just feel that Magnus has slightly lowered his street cred with this negative strategy. But I totally get that he increased his chances of winning

Anticlimactic end to a great match. Caruana isn't anywhere near top shelf in the quicker time controls. I saw Aronian just humiliate him a couple months ago in blitz. Rapid is different from blitz but I knew this was still a formality.

Lol! If this had been blitz I wouldn't have even bothered watching

I don't think Carlsen will care about the street cred. He will be world champion for at least another couple years and this is already his 3rd defense. Kasparov had even worse moments of weakness in that 2000 match vs. Kramnik. He was down a point quickly and still had multiple draws in under 20 moves.

After this defense I think it's a decent time to talk about Carlsen's place in history as of today. I'd personally have him 4th next to GK, EL, and AK. He's moving up the ranks quickly.

3rd game has already reached a point where it's almost impossible to see Magnus lose. Clear edge and just making sure not to take unnecessary risks. Caruana will be forced to launch an unsound attack because a draw is a loss.

Caruana has done a good job of making this one interesting. Shouldn't be more than a draw but a fairly open king at least makes it a bit uncomfortable for Magnus.

But the passers again probably can bring this home barring a cheap swindle. And Magnus won't allow that surely

Bitter pill to swallow for Caruana. Hats off to both of them for the classical match. This mess shouldn't take away from that. Both of those guys as well as a couple others near the top are so damn hard to beat in classical chess. The time is coming where changes will need to be made.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if we get a rematch in a couple years. Aside from him it could be Ding, Shakh, or maybe a semi-surprise like Aronian and MVL.
