Bully tendencies Kieran. I know a couple linespeople and they say Roddick was the worst by far. Always making excuses, not blaming himself, at Davis Cup he stepped on the foot of this linesman on purpose. Just stuff like that. This linesman said all the linespeople call Roddick "by his name, Dick." He also said, "He's a monster." Another time at Memphis his mom was sitting front row and Roddick yelled at her. But a lot of players do that to their boxes. Roddick was pretty intense and a fierce competitor but off the court a very nice guy, funny witty in his press conferences. But just a beast on the court. And in the heat of battle. There's been a few players like that who didn't always channel the fire the best way. Maybe if Roddick didn't have such fire and fury, he would not have gotten to number one or won a major title.

Roddick seems like a flowery SOB. I wonder if anyone ever stood up to him and cut him down to size. Was he like this because he saw himself as the entitled poster boy, after Pete and Andre? The last big American hero? Only speculating, but he sounds nasty... :nono

i wouldn't say he is a 'flowery' one, and if regular guys like you try to stand up to him..... he probably cut you down to size .....

I agree that Roddick was very witty and amusing in pressers, but you could see the bully in him. And I'm pretty sure he knew better than to take on Hewitt. Lleyton would've head-butted him and been done.

Interesting to know how testy it can get in the locker room, Scoop. Thanks for the behind-the-scenes.

could see Hewitt do that too, how about Roger? Roddick can take him on and make him cry i think.... and that losing streak would've maybe been reversed

I think that Roddick made all that up just to sound interesting to the other guys around. No1e and Roddick even had an exhibition together in Korea couple of years ago.

With that h2h, Roger would have dusted him off like so much light-day's work before Roddick even had time to formulate a snide comment.

If you read above, it wasn't just Roddick who mentioned the episode. It was confirmed by guys working the venue.

I read that when you pointed i out and I think it is even bigger lie than what Roddick came up with. There were arguments in the locker room though, that is what I read about before.

Oh when I say flowery I mean it the way we say it in Dublin, referring to a male/female who's of trigger-switch moodiness, straight from a sulk into a full blown terror.

Thanks again Scoop!
